I have been working at Maxtek Components
Pros – Technical opportunity and competent, educated workmates. A small company within a larger one, with an internal revenue stream. Sharp marketing could bring in new business from a wide variety of areas.
Cons – It's a bit of a niche market, and it's necessary to stay technically current - so a high level of capital investment may be needed. Revenue may be feast or famine, and with Danaher ownership, it's possible a downturn could be fatal. The former owner, Tektronix, was once all things to all people, tremendously profitable for Oregon. Over the years, Mother Tek shrunk substantially, with the result that the political sharpies survived. That results in behavior that is not always conducive to teamwork. The Portland area's pay is below par, especially given housing costs. One is almost reminded of upstate New York.
Advice to Senior Management – Use the human capital well and fairly; there are some specialized skills needed to play in this market. Especially with DHR buying TEK, make sure communication is open, honest, and frequent.
