I worked at Maxum Petroleum full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Company had the potential grow into the largest petroleum distribution in the company

    Cons

Too many acquisitions too quickly, not repairing the issues with the acquired companies after the acquisition, too many moving parts and lack of organization led to the demise

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on creating functional business units and repair the disfunctional ones prior to moving onto more acquisitions.

I worked at Maxum Petroleum full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I can't think of one good thing about working for this company.

    Cons

They take over the companies they partner with, laying off hundreds of local employess. They only worry about the all mighty buck instead of their employees and the local economies they are damaging. Upper management in CT. never takes the time to know the employees in their smaller companies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do what is right. Not just what makes you more money. Greed will eventually be your down fall.

I have been working at Maxum Petroleum full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Solid salary
    401k matching
    Convenient office location
Training for SAP and related systems

    Cons

Weak, uncommunicative, indecisive senior management team
Silo mentality leading to difficulties of HQ working with regional staff
    No professional growth opportunities
    Sub-par health/dental benefits
    Poor vacation time allotment
    Atrocious IT support and development
The higher you climb in title, the less of a work life balance you have

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in an IT team that knows how to support a rapidly growing company. Have a professional development plan for employees at all levels. Incentivize employees to want to do their best consistently or apathy will remain high and morale will remain low.

Idiotic, ineffectual management has taken over what could have been a great company

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Oklahoma City, OK

I worked at Maxum Petroleum full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice technology to work with, decent coworkers in my department, decent salary.

    Cons

As stated in the title - idiotic, ineffectual management too easily swayed by techno-speak into throwing money down the drain for a system that was doomed from the start.

Zero opportunities for advancement - unless someone dies or you are really good looking in a skirt and don't mind getting your knees scuffed up a bit.

The most non-technical employees ever, who are little more than Neanderthal-like dunces around anything that has a keyboard who attempt to tell the IT employees how to do their job, with the arrogance of someone who thinks they know how things work, but in reality have no clue.

The worst benefits package I have ever had forced upon me.

Three CIOs in four years - 'nuff said.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire some intelligent employees so that IT's time isn't spent babysitting the morons who can't open up their Excel spreadsheet without hand-holding by IT.
