Pros
Maxwell had some of the most brilliant engineers and managers in the field of Ultracapacitor Technology. They were a company that pushed the envelope with their technology. Between 2004-2006, Maxwell was aggressive on all fronts from engineering, product development and Marketing. They had management that listened to their employees and everyone there felt they were contributing to the company.
Cons
With the introduction of new management and promotions for unqualified individuals placed positions of power, the company was wrecked. Having an opinion or telling the truth often times would get individuals fired. People were put into positions as project manager to be scape-goats for mismanagement by executives. Employees were expected to give 150% effort and the effort was taken for granted all the while senior management received their 20% bonuses and Human Resources claimed that there was no money in the budget for raises.
Advice to Senior Management
Go back to your core business. Don't try to create a product for a non-existent market. Develop products that companies will buy and use. Stop using snake-oil type marketing tactics. Listen to the people doing the work as they know what is possible. Believe in your employees and allow them to make the decisions to keep the company on track.
