    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, managers are encouraging. Good training opportunities. Employees are given opportunity to use their own judgement and initiative when appropriate!

    Cons

Climbing up the management ladder maybe difficult. The rules are not very clear, some employees in same position for a decade or more!

    Advice to Management

    Make rules for advancement clear

    Advice to Management

    Pros

At least you have a salary for pay your bills! between labs of Vancouver is the most decent paid!

    Cons

English is not the first spoken language among workers. I have never been trained . Promotions are according the supervisor likes and not the exam.

    Advice to Management

Late shifts without supervision don't finish well their job. People in Ontario should have surprise visits to Burnaby Locatons.

    Pros

Staff has a great overall personality. We get pretty cheap coats at winter time to make up for the lack of Christmas party for remote sites. Staff is able to transfer to different locations, but they are all the same.

    Cons

Maxxam severely under pays their employees. They hire on New Canadians, or people getting their citizenship before permanent Canadians to be able to under pay them so much. Definitely the lowest paid contractors on site of any oil sands project. It is actually an on going joke with other contractors. Management does not get into the lab to help if needed. Good company to start out with and get your experience (if they decided to cross train you) but not a company to stay with over all

    Pros

Depending on which lab you're in, you can work as part of a team or you can work more independently. The lab could be fast-paced or more relaxed, again depending on the lab.

    Cons

You will be performing the same procedures every day. For people who enjoy learning, there's not much of that as a lab assistant. You may also be required to work overtime.
