I have been working at Mayo Clinic Health System full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - Positive Atmosphere, great Co-workers
    - Staff physicians very approachable
    - Pay is equitable
    - Prestigious, name recognition

    Cons

    - Health benefits keep getting reduced and costs continue to rise
    - Prescription drug coverage TERRIBLE; if you need specialty drug, get ready to hand over your paycheck
    - Finally a match for 401K equivalent but does this mean pension going away?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve the prescription drug coverage; it's very disheartening when employee patients can't afford what we need to prescribe because of poor coverage, especially when the Medicare or other privately insured patient doesn't have the same issue

Amazing leadership at a health care organization that really cares about patients. The work they do makes you proud to be a part of it.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic Health System full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great system with lots of opportunity to move-up. The pay is great, the educaitonal and professional opportunites are execellent as well.

    Cons

Lots of cahnge occuring in the health system through convergence and integration efforts, which has created ambiguity with regard to current and future trajectory. Also, I am given so many "additional duties as required" to the extent that there is no bandwidth to take on more and meet the needs that my role requires.

I worked at Mayo Clinic Health System

    Pros

It's a job that pays well. Don't expect employees to work too hard.

    Cons

Insurance does not cover therapy for autistic children even though we live in WI and WI requires employers to cover ABA Therapy. Mayo is large enough they can get away without having to do it. Very disappointing for a medical organization!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Cover ABA therapy!!!

    Pros

great stepping stone, training and personnel are great, many people to collaborate and work alongside.

    Cons

Its a small town and focused more on health services. Limited places to go out for singles. Limited nightlife and dinning.

I have been working at Mayo Clinic Health System full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Challenging and rewarding place to work; While there are always budgetary constraints, for the most part you are given the opportunity to bring in what you need.

    Cons

Large organization, spread out geographically between 3 areas (Fl, AZ, MN/WI). Because of the size, things can move very slowly, and a lot of disorganization at times. Middle leadership is ok, but upper levels gets into a lot of politics, and who can make the biggest splash in the puddle.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Disconnect at times between what employees advocate and support vs what upper management thinks should be done.

The needs of the patients do not come first when it comes to patient billing.

I worked at Mayo Clinic Health System

    Pros

Biweekly paycheck, insurance benefits were ok. The employee cafeteria was a real advantage if you worked close enough to eat there.

    Cons

Very poor training, appears primary goal is to make patients pay regardless if billing is correct or not. Departments within billing structure DO NOT help each other which in turn makes helping the patient nearly impossible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember the Mayo brothers philosophy and restructure your billing department entirely, ie: from the initial experience to the end. These poor patients are going through so much then they hit the billing " wall of resistance" and it's all downhill from there.
