    Pros

Great Benifits, Family to work - 8 and out

    Cons

Zero Training. HR is in California and does not participate AT ALL in Flat Rock unless they have to.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Engage more with the employees and try not to be so arrogant

    Pros

benefit package on par with other auto manufacturers

    Cons

Incompetency of Regional Staff - specifically GM's

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to do some house cleaning at regional levels; some seriously incompetent people working there.

    Pros

If its located close to where you live, you want to drive a mazda or just want some experience in the car business Mazda is for you.

    Cons

The management of the company is all hat and no horse. The CMO can talk a good game but excels at politics. Its a bit of a snake den so be open eyed and watch anyone one who has worked there for more than 5 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You talk a good game but don't really execute the plan. You have a couple of rouge team members who need to go back to military school and learn leadership.

Cliquish environment. Managers emphasize team competition over cooperation. But cool benefits though.

    Pros

Car allowance is great. B level employees get $550/month to use for lease of up to three vehicles. 'C' level employees get $650/month. Any money left over from the allowance is added to your paycheck.
    Great medical and dental benefits.
Fitness benefit of $300 per year can be used to buy bicycles or for gym memberships.
    Very good looking cars.

    Cons

Easy to plateau in your position and reach a career dead end.
Absolutely NO diversity among senior management and executive team.
    Horrible food in the cafeteria.
Very cliquish environment. If you're not in the "right" clique your career advancement opportunities are slim.
The company refuses to support progressive fuel economy standards and deliver more fuel efficient vehicles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't pit employees against each other. Use employees respective talents to build well rounded teams. Forcing team members to compete creates unnecessary tension.

    Pros

Exciting industry, small enough of a company to be exposed to multiple departments and projects. The employees are some of the best you will find anywhere.

    Cons

Poor communication from upper management. Vision and direction is often lacking. Poor co-operation between divisions to the point that multiple groups can be working on similar projects at the same time and create conflicts.

    Pros

Great brand with good products. Wonderful benefits package, including car benefits and vacation time. Management is very informative with company's performance.

    Cons

Salaries are not competitive with other local companies within and outside of the same industry. Benefits only compensate for part of that difference. Very little is done by HR to encourage growth, you're pretty much on your own (including any outside networking, training, seminars, etc.. no budget).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to make employees proud to work for Mazda. Sometimes the cost cutting hurts morale and give employees the impression they're the next to go.

I have been working at Mazda North American Operations

    Pros

Very collegial place to work, with a real sense of mission. Lots of fun times there. Some excellent VP/C level managers who really know the industry and help people move around and broaden skills.

    Cons

HR is horrible. They look for excuses to let people go, and encourage people to leave the company rather than try to work with them on their careers (I left for a better job elsewhere, was not broomed).

Pay not comensurate with California real estate prices, or rest of industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure your HR team. Remember, they are there to fulfill payroll and benefits. They have no strategic function.

Mazda North American Operations is generally a great company but I.T. is less than supportive to newer recruits.

I worked at Mazda North American Operations

    Pros

The company was great and had great perks including ability to rent or lease vehicles. The cars are fun and the senior management seemed to be sincere, interested and talented.

    Cons

The company as a whole had few cons. The department I was in (IT) was somewhat less than helpful and more stressful than other areas. Cooperation was not easily found especially for someone new.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The IT management needs to develop a culture of cooperation and support for one another to provide better support and be more successful.

    Pros

Enjoyed the people on the team very much. The management was great to work with as well. Mayn have been there a long time.

    Cons

The influence from Ford can be good and bad at times. There is some degree of creativity in approaching solutions to problems but the general plan is handed down to Mazda.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Found HR very narrow minded regarding IT people's strengths and appropriate compensation. Overall thought eh job pays well and the benefits are fantastic. Best health insurance I ever had plus two company cars.

I worked at Mazda North American Operations

    Pros

If you haven't worked in the automotive industry before then Mazda is a great career introduction. It is a great place to network and meet lots of interesting, experienced and knowledgeable people. I often hear that people who start working in the auto industry rarely leave it. Working at Mazda, I can understand why. The industry and work environment is dynamic, competitive, and exciting.

    Cons

Get used to learning by fire. Work performance expectations, regardless of the training you receive, are high from the get-go. Learn office politics early on in order to succeed and survive. Get used to doing a lot of work and not getting credit for it. Friendly and helpful people should look elsewhere for a career; everyone is out for themselves.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Having "manager" in your title does not mean you do it well. Those in higher positions could really use some training in leadership, management, and communication skills. HR should occasionally come down from up on high to see job performance through their own eyes. Caring for and developing employees is what makes an organization strong. Practice what you preach.
