Pros
work culture is great and same with benefits. Have lots of opportunities in the bay area. Good location in the heart of silicon valley
Cons
1 It totally a security company and not web based one. For those who loves to work in enterprise level industry can join this company
Advice to Senior Management
its been great working at mcafee.
Pros
friendly team nice location in santa clara
Cons
no direction no true strategy
Advice to Senior Management
offer raises and support flexible hourse
Pros
Good Pension Plan, Flexible hours, Home working possible, occasional spot bonuses, encouragement to self-improve (however see notes below on working hours expectations)
Cons
Limited stock options - mainly these are for senior management or high performers and not funnelled down, ageing office with limited facilities. HR department that seems to encourage "role changes" rather than promotions, high degree of expectation regarding working hours. Lack of a sensible approach to internal pay rises meaning the standard "you want more money go elsewhere" approach, until you leave and then maybe they will offer more....but by then its too late. Constantly allowing and then putting restriction on hiring and same on travel.
Advice to Senior Management
Look realistically at you HR practices specifically in regard to internal promotions and payrises, dont wait until staff are frustrated till the point of leaving to offer them a payrise by then its to late. create a structure for promotion and pay rise adjustments in line with market leaders and stick to it for all staff not just new hires. Fix the items shown in the cons and you will stop losing key people.
Pros
Wonderful environment, people are great, good culture. The people make the place; I couldn't think of a more desireable work environment to work in.
Cons
Being a very large company, it is sometimes hard to get the information you need, or find who you need to get it from. They are not really good after aquiring another company.
Advice to Senior Management
I have no advice to give to management. I think they do a great job at placing our company in the market it needs to be in and communicating with the employees.
Pros
I was good to learn multiple technologies
Cons
Lack of chance to work with other division for sharing knowledge
Advice to Senior Management
Cross team solution
Pros
Peers in engineering are smart, nice and are willing to help others.
Company will buy you the hardware you need to get you job done, you just need a good business case.
Pay is OK, nothing to get excited about. Negotiate well on hire!
Nice place for a short term.
Free pop, free donuts (once a week), monthly cake day to celebrate birthdays (very recent)
Good benefits
Cons
This is a "Yes" man's place.
No commitment from management to help grow you, they want you happy where you are.
Work life balance is not something valued here! They value deadline over quality.
Burn-out due to stupid duplication of cross-team roles. Developer expected to also be QA, do your job as a coder then do the job of a full-time QA. If QA gets a buggy drop, they+QA management whine about their "deadline" being stretched. QA doesn't want to work past 5pm! So developer have to put in extra hours, this is unfair!!!
They try to fit an agile process in a company that is more like a waterfall software development shop.
They lack real engineering standards, it's really painful how much dev managers are so old school they see no value is using a unit testing framework!
You can work your butt off, put in long hours and you will not get a pay raise to even match inflation. This is not only sad, but plain insulting! More so when a company sees double-digit growth for 8+ consecutive quarters! It's a slap in the face!!
No opportunity for growth, company is really small. you are pretty much stuck where you are.
Slow to embrace new technology, they love to acquire companies for the IP, but zero focus on R&D.
Management will throw you under the bus, even when they are not managing you!
Management is resistance to change, they talk with zero action and lack credibility. Most manager will listen, that is as far as it goes.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop talking, stop taking surveys and just execute. Noting speaks volume then "effective" action. Workers see though the hot air talks, also the surveys are so misleading because no one really believes they are anonymous. As a result "real" feelings between peers is not reflected in the survey management is seeing!
Pros
Company is really looking after its employees. Management is keen to listen and change. Training can be offered is relevant.
Cons
Working environment at this particular site is not so good. Industrial area, not many places to go at lunch. Teams spread across many small houses, less chance to communicate across teams.
Pros
A leader in the space.
Cons
The company doesn't reward good work with promotions or pay raises and it won't hesitate to let a good, loyal, long lasting employee go in spite of good performance reviews.
Advice to Senior Management
Devote more energy to putting out a good product and show some loyalty to employees who show the same.
Pros
Pay, free cokes, and stock gifts
Cons
Expertise within leadership is low - only based on running small start ups
Information is closely guarded and intentionally held back
Leadership took away 401k matching and promised its return by a certain date, no communication provided when the date passed by 3 months - now reinstating
Low potential for promotion
Entire company is reactionary, no project planning, budgeting, etc structure
Advice to Senior Management
Remove peter principal leaders within the organization and create opportunities for top performers to build a career
Pros
They care about their employees
Decent pay. Neither high nor low.
Good stock options plan and long term performance incentives(LTPI)
Free snacks etc are incentives to work late!
Cons
Senior management is under constant grip of their US counterparts!
Senior management doesn't take independent decisions.
Pay hikes are low or not offered at all. LTPI compensates for it to a certain extent!
Promotions or career growth is non-existent!
Advice to Senior Management
Take independent strong decisions. Encourage employees to work on IDP's and reward employees who work hard and come up wih original suggestions. Please offer atleast a standard pay hike on par with industry.
