Pros
People are professional
Pay/benefits are good
Overall a good place to work
Cons
With big compaines come big challenges - especially communication between global sites
Many positions are sent to countries where the pay is lower, and the quality of work is sometimes overlooked.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall they are leading the company in a good direction. I'm sure the McAfee shareholders would agree. While sending jobs to developing countries does save money just keep in mind that often in life you get what you pay for, for both business and personal.
Pros
Flexible work environment and decent work hours
Cons
Old boys club. Difficult to move up and flat struvture
Advice to Senior Management
Need to provide resources where needed and make the tough decisions to kill projects.
Pros
Very aggressive and competitive when it comes to marketing and sales. Smart acquisitions and rapidly improving ability to integrate them. Generally an expectation that McAfee should be able to compete with the largest of competitors, and support of proposals that offer a path to get there.
Cons
Lack of internal career paths and professional development, with an old school mentality of seniority rather than meritocracy. There is virtually no discussion of the gaps that people need to overcome in order to achieve the next level. While there is a keen focus on key indicators and metrics, there seems to be a reluctance to walk away from products and business areas that just are not executing to plan. Salary and bonus start competitive, but raises seem to be weak.
Advice to Senior Management
Challenge people managers to set promotion goals for their staff and measure them on this. There seems to be no expectation that, once hired, people will or should develop and grow.
Pros
The free drinks. The level of knowledge in the research side of the organization is bar none. The company is profitable and future projections are very strong.
Cons
The research side could use work in integrating the various companies that McAfee buys. Also, it seems like Product Management has a clear idea of where they are going and are constantly changing directions. These changes have a big impact and usually lead to wasted cycles in the organization.
Advice to Senior Management
Be more involved in your organization. Support more company functions.
Pros
Benefits (insurance, 401K, etc...), location, brand, industry
Cons
Bad products, bad client support
Advice to Senior Management
Be real! Be communicatif with your employees and don't treat them like they are just employees.
