I have been working at McAfee full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The pay is decent, but definitely depends on your hiring manager. The facility is very nice and has a nice cafe The computer provided was a dell and the IT dept. helps very quickly with any technical issues. The culture depends on the organization and the managing executive for that particular org. Overall people leave work at 5, and that's expected.

    Cons

Executive leadership is really bad. It's a good ole' boys' club which disgusts many of the employees. Upper management is viewed as being less than sincere and it's hurting morale across the board. Intel has now accelerated the process of swallowing the wholly owned subsidiary and there is so much change going on, the instability is demotivating. At least 2 rounds of layoffs a year and raises are slim to none.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being sexist, stop promoting unqualified people for personal reasons (i.e. giving jobs to people that kiss up to you or happen to look a certain way) and realize that the people are what make the company ...so worry about morale and take the employee survey seriously. Stop spending outrageous amounts of money on executive entertainment and compensate your people.

I have been working at McAfee full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There's a gym on-site and a decent cafeteria. They have really fast internet access in the office.

    Cons

Systems are just archaic: BI and data are a joke: wireless internet access is a mess inside building; dunces are in mid-level mgmt and up positions. No one is empowered to make decisions that are new and breakthrough. It's just an awful place to be. Don't do it. This is a declining business. Security might be "hot" but not this company. If you're interviewing ask the hiring mgrs how much has the company invested in innovation and research? All the profits go into sales. The "president" is a geriatric man that's completely out of touch with accounts, industry, technology. He thinks he can BS his way in anything. Hey, it's worked so far--only thing is the market has changed. No women in any meaningful positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire 50%+ of your directors, senior directors, VPs and C-staff.
Hire new talent external to the company.
Hire some executive women--no not executive admins.

I have been working at McAfee full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Work At Home Flexibility In Some Business Units Depending On Role & Manager
Always Something Going On & Changing Your Day Will Feel Like 10 Minutes Long
    Fair Pay, Good Benefits etc
    Great people to work with.

    Cons

Can be a bit bureaucratic when trying to get something done.
Like other companies constantly doing more with less leaving staff strained feeling unsuccessful.
Upper management seems to not know what really is happening in the trenches.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to do something, plan it and provide the resources to ensure it is successful.
While our colleagues in India are an enormous asset, you rely too much on overseas labor resulting in timezone issues. A better mix globally would be appreciated.

I worked at McAfee full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

McAfee offers benefits which are at par with some of the well known companies in valley. Very good company culture. There are some talented folks.

    Cons

Too much of bureaucracy and vastly distributed teams in some groups.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please hire people with fresh perspective and affinity towards products.

I have been working at McAfee full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There is some work life balance but that really depends on the team and dept you are in. The cafe has decent food, they have seemed to attract SOME very smart people. Their benefits are competitive, the workspace nice and great parking!

    Cons

Serious lack of growth within the company, relatively no opportunity for upward mobility which can wreak havoc on one's career. The leadership team has serious issues and overall is very weak and not aligned, some recent changes may change that but nothing yet. Some old bad management ways are still in effect and overall morale is low. Compensation package overall is NOT competitive with the valley but even that seems to change depending on what dept you are in and who your supervisor is. If I could rate a 2.5 I would

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some major change needs to happen to prevent the wheels from falling off the cart, and this is not happening fast enough. Execs need to agree on the direction and focus of the company

I worked at McAfee full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Your weaknesses become your strengths. I became very competent at the tasks I was assigned.

    Cons

There are cliques within the office, I had a creepy boss, and the work can be very repetitive. The intern program is not built out as it should be.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More training for interns, and get up to speed with what's popular in the Silicon Valley. That will attract the right set of employees.
