    Pros

The pay is good with good benefits and work life balance

    Cons

The company is lost and in a fog. They have no direction of where they are going. Most of the top leadership have left or been fired in droves. There is a new organizational structure every 2 weeks. There is no advancement, career development or succession planning. The company is is cost cutting mode at all costs. Not a good place to work and will not be for the next 5 years at least.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Retain and promote your employees from within especially if they want to do more and learn more and show promise and commitment. Otherwise your best employees will leave while you recruit strangers off the street.

    Pros

Tries to be competitive in the benefits arena but is reviewing cuts all the time.

    Cons

Poor direction from all levels; complete turnover of senior management; multiple changes in direction and demands of production facilities; focus on potatoes and no investment in other aspects of the business; employees with longevity and loyalty leaving in droves; no trust in senior management - based on what they say and what they do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The McCain culture has been ruined in every way possible. Incompetence is at the very top and mistrust runs throughout the ranks. It will take years to restore a culture of loyalty, trust, and profitability as it was in the old days. We wonder if the McCain family is even aware at how rampant the dissatisfaction their employees feel or if they even care.

I have been working at McCain Foods full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The company provides industry standard compensation.

    Cons

The legacy of Harrison and Wallace is gone. They would be devastated in the way the company has evolved, and the current operation of the company. There have been several major directional changes by CEO's in the last few years, Each bring in their own employees into key roles, who bring in their employees, all at the expense of promoting from within., That is understandable to a point but a virtual blacklisting of long term employees is not right. Turfing them to make room is worse. A major purge is underway in this last round. You can earn loyalty, but you cannot buy it off of the street.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

At this point it is too late for advice. The senior employees that made the company successful have been replaced, and more to follow. Somehow the definition of "success" changed. Now that many loyal employees are gone, those that remain are demoralized and performance suffers. The new employees do not care about the company - they have no loyalty - just job hopping, I am keeping my head down...............

    DO NOT rock this boat!!!

    I worked at McCain Foods

    Pros

McCain pays well and has good benefits, especially within the industry. They are a big, global company with lots of opportunities, if you are willing to move around. And, if you are willing to play by their rules, you can make a very long career here.

    Cons

This company is the textbook example of "do not rock the boat". They have been around a long time and they want employees who are willing to play by their rules. What they do NOT like is anyone who dares to question the corporate mantra or direction. They do NOT want out of the box thinking or even a mere difference of opinion. DO NOT go to work for this company if you thrive on making improvements or change. They want you to do your job quietly in your corner, and not much else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Whenever you are truly ready to take strides forward, be willing to hire, listen to, and even accept different ideas, thoughts, and opinions.

    Pros

Very competitive pay. Great benefits package. Work/Life balance is one of the best out there. Very large company with decades of proven reliability; no worries of downsizing or buy-outs.

    Cons

Indecisive leadership. Do more with less type of mentality. No legitimate focus on employee recognition (although it's all over the company website). Departing further and further from original traditions and beliefs of McCain brothers.

    Pros

Pay is good, people are good.

    Cons

Poor management and Human resources department. Everyone passes the buck on issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen and think about building relationships, instead of thinking of everyone as a number. Next man up, is a TERRIBLE business philosophy.

    Pros

Hard to find any these days...used to be a good privately held family company. Pay is decent but not worth what you will go through there.

    Cons

Corporate HR unprofessional and lack integrity. Poor leadership at the top of the organization as well. Strategy constantly changing as well as organizational structure. In major cost cutting mode. Safety and quality have been de-emphasized.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out why so many leaders are leaving...including several VP's that had been there less than 6 months...that says VOLUMES!!!!! Replace top HR officer with someone of integrity and one that actually knows HR.

I have been working at McCain Foods part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I work the Friday night sanitation, so a big pro for me is the consistent schedule. Most part-time jobs have a varied work schedule, but when you just want some extra money a job that does not conflict with the regular work week is great. Plus the pay is great for one night a week.

    Cons

Well, I work every Friday night, all night. It's the schedule I applied for, and it has its benefits. However sometimes its nice to have a Friday night. Then Saturday is pretty much shot as well.
