Pros
The compensation package I recieved was very competitive. The upper management in the greenville office is very talented and they see changes in the market very early, which keeps them out in front of the pack. They also build a quality home, compared to most national and regional builders. They offer custom quality at a track builder price.
Cons
Poor decisions at the corporate level created cash flow problems for the better performing markets. Unfortunately, this created limited resources for the strong markets and subsequent lay-offs were needed to stay competitive in a struggling market. Although the local staff valued some employees that had to be let go, the feeling of being "just a number" remained.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep a good cash position and focus on A+ properties with high lot and home yields in all markets. Limit development in a bad market and concentrate on exceptional lot values from 3rd party developers.
Pros
great benefits, good product and reputation
Cons
work/family life balance or lack there of, social aspect is a little like high school rather than professional including some managers
Advice to Senior Management
base pay plus commission, get out of your office once in a while and visit the field and product
Pros
excellent benefits and training. Annual Christmas bonus of $2000
Cons
no respect for family/work balance. Taking your time off is frowned apon
Advice to Senior Management
step-aside and let someone who knows what they are doing take over
Pros
Family owned and operated but trying to move towards a corporation feel. Used to be the bonus structure but that has been taken away. The family side of things was the companies best asset
Cons
By being family owned and operated, a lot of decisions were made without knowledge, alot of bickering back a forth, and a lot of bumping of chests took place on power trips
Advice to Senior Management
Actually visit the field, visit the offices in other states and look at the production rather that view it all by reports and on paper. There is more than meets the eye of a report.
