    Pros

Stock options, you learn how to screw owners over - so when you leave you know what in life you don't want to be like..

    Cons

They are the worst company to work for, they buy your life with the offer of money that they trick their clients out of, Disrespect is HIGH to subcontractors, you need to be a male and drink heavy to be part of the management team - divorce is high. There are few minorities in management, women are promoted based on looks. If you speak out they will ship you out to a project and hope that you quit so your stock returns to them, I watched them screw an owner over falsely adjusting a bid so they would get the work. Made me sick , and I quit..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look in a mirror. God will judge you. The owners will find out sooner or later.

    Pros

Stability, good salary, good training program, great benefits. Esop program is very good historically along with good 401k match. Nice vacation homes for employees to use.

    Cons

Poor work life balance. Hard to take time off, expect a lot of hours. More interested in performance of projects rather than in the performance of people.

I have been working at McCarthy Building

    Pros

McCarthy is 100% employee owned and allows its employees to have a share in the company's stock. This makes everyone work as a team because their colleagues' success/failure ultimately effects the company's stock price.

    Cons

Long work hours. Not enough balance between work and family.

    I worked at McCarthy Building

    Pros

    - Employee owned company
    - Great leadership at the top
    - Involvement in many aspects of the construction industry
    - Can advance at a rapid pace
    - Multiple opportunities for career path

    Cons

    - 90% Work, 10% Life balance
    - Constant relocation between jobs
    - Information is learned not given (read non-preventative atmosphere)
    - Job site management works in CYA mode and is not afraid to use anyone as a scapegoat
    - Field employees are considered numbers not names and are treated as such

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I guess my advice would be that your employees are your most valuable asset, moreover they are also part owners of the company, and should be treated with dignity. The idea of the job calls for 10 staff members, we can get by with 6, so we'll use 4 is why there is no work life balance and many errors are being made. For long-term growth of the company if it takes 10 people use 8-10 people so that people can spend time with their families if they want. Top management needs to stop racing for billionaire status by standing on the shoulders of operations and help others in the company taste some of the good life as well. There's enough to go around.

    I worked at McCarthy Building

    Pros

Everyone is really helpfull, training is extensive, work hard play hard atmosphere. Jobsite staff is very knowledgeable and has extensive office help.

    Cons

As with every contractor in Southern California, jobs can be spread out due to the fact that the greater Los Angeles area is very spaced out. Not specific to McCarthy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep being the best builder in America, and expanding your green building programs. Also, keep bidding on megaprojects such as the large hospitals.
