I worked at McDermott Will & Emery full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I had an excellent mentor, and local leadership was very supportive when I took leave to care for my first child. Very strong community if you can tap into it.

    Cons

I didn't feel like there was any investment made in me personally by the firm. I was useful, but only in the roles I made for myself; I wasn't given additional training or education (though perhaps it was a bit much to ask, being a junior administrative staffer).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lawyers are the lifeblood of the firm, but retaining talent in non-legal roles needs to be given higher priority.

    Pros

Benefits are wonderful. People in the office are friendly and nice.

    Cons

Work is very inconsistent with some months really busy and others spotty. Not organized well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out a model where there is consistent updates on cases from team leads. Communicate strategies better.

  3.

A good place to work, but one has to be prepared to advocate for one's fair pay.

    Pros

As I recall McDermott offered tuition credit and this policy accounted for some of the advancement attained by co-workers.

    Cons

I think it depends at what level one is employed here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your lower level employees more fairly, they actually can make you look good.

    Pros

The company culture is better than typical law firms. The benefits are good and there are a wide variety of options.

I worked at McDermott Will & Emery full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

The office is nice and the company supplies coffee, milk and oatmeal for the employees. The health, dental, vision, etc. benefits package provided is good.

    Cons

This company discriminates against women and minorities. I would never work for them again, and I am extremely dissatisfied with how I was treated. After moving on to a company that actually cares about its employees I am even more aware of the oppressive and unhappy environment at McDermott.
