Pros
Great first job to get your career started. I spent over a year and a half working there and learned many things that have helped me further my career like the importance of being on time, working as a team and keeping a professional appearance.
Cons
The downsides of working at McDonald's are much like those found at other fast-food restaurants. For example, the short lunch breaks, the odors associated with working with food and being on your feet all day.
Advice to Senior Management
Finding a good manager at McDonald's is like other businesses in that you don't always get what you need. Their is a wide range of management styles out there and sometimes you just have to hope you get one that fits you.
Pros
Job Security is strong. There are many locations which provide many good opportunities for growth and or change if needed.
Cons
Long working hours. High pressure. At times, reinvestment is required even when it does not make sense financially, which takes away resources from other areas.
Advice to Senior Management
While pursuing growth is important, the addition of too many menu items confuse your employees and your guests. You run the risk of losing the identity that your media dollars and decades of execution have established.
Pros
I believe the best thing about McDonald's is that it is perfect for young adults or students starting to enter the working world and looking to become independent. They are very understanding of school schedules and activities. They also are pretty understanding of time off as long as you ask two weeks in advanced.
As for actually working there, its really not that bad.
Its like most other jobs for new and unskilled workers or anyone entering the workforce, if you can suck in your pride until you find something better, it should not be too much of a problem.
Cons
The worst thing about working at a McDonald's is "Working at McDonald's".
It is one of the lowest jobs a person can have in american society and many of the people that go in there don't have much respect for employees.
You learn to deal with people and how to provide service with a smile no matter how much they may not deserve it.
The next worst thing is that every day is the same.
Same people, same work, and same problems. Some people can deal with that, but it can get old and drive you crazy in no time.
Advice to Senior Management
Since I have been working there (roughly 4 months) the management has been doing a complete turn around in everything from cooking procedures to workers relations. The general manager has been leading this with improving sales results every month. They have begun to talk more openly with employees and have encouraged everyone to speak up about anything, good or bad. Do not really have much advice for them except to somehow encourage employees to care about the restaurants daily and weekly sales so everybody works together more efficient.
Pros
Opportunities for career development and promotions
Extensive training for crew and management
Fast atmosphere
Good coworkers
Plenty of projects for the right person
Cons
Inner circle (in with management, gave away food, promotions, raises, etc)
Unfairly promoted based on 'personality assessment', not fact-based actions
Emphasis on speed over quality
Tendency to blame crew for screw ups
Negative customers can be particularly difficult (dollar tree budget, five star expectations)
Advice to Senior Management
Work on emphasizing importance of the crew (you tend to say they're appreciated and yet don't show it)
Pros
Fun, Quick, Experience, friendly, the people there are nice, you get to meet new people, great support, discounts, energetic and great.
Cons
boring, long shifts, deal with unessential things, get a bad job, get rejected, some people are nasty, low salary and
Advice to Senior Management
better management and leadership, more employees, better equipment, better manager, more experienced workers, better locations, get more people to come and work.
Pros
overall my co workers helped me and are very nice and cooperative
Cons
the pay is very low and i do not see myself with them long
Advice to Senior Management
i would love mcdonalds more if the pay was higher....
Pros
it is a job, and with the right management its good
Cons
the pay sucks and its retail
Advice to Senior Management
work managers less
Pros
-Fairly easy to learn
-Some fun people to work with
-Some nice managers
-Good for a first job
-Alright pay for starting out
Cons
-Customers are very rude
-They don't care about your scheduling concerns, especially if they're understaffed
-New employees expected to learn everything the first time they're taught
Advice to Senior Management
Prepare new employees well enough for the position they applied and got hired for. Show them all the things that they need to know so that they will know what is expected of them. Make sure that each store is properly staffed so that 3 people don't have to do everything by themselves.
Pros
Depending on which location you work, you may get lucky with a good supervisor that will be flexible with your schedule otherwise you can have a poor experience.
Cons
The pay is poor but that is expected as it's a fast food job. There isn't much advancement and you are often looked as easily replaced.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect your employees especially those that work multiple jobs and still come into work everyday on time. Without them the business won't be successful.
Pros
none other then it is easy to get in
freidnly
Cons
Alot
lack of hours, little pay
Advice to Senior Management
better starting pay
