I worked at McGill University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Working at the bookstore is pretty great. They are very flexible with your hours and do not give you many responsibilities, other than keeping the sales area neat and shelving any new merchandise. Great place to work over all.

    Cons

No challenges really, obviously that managers do not listen to you if you have any ideas, cannot really put any of your ideas into the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the students that are working their, because they know better what students are willing to buy at the bookstore. Also do a better job at stocking sizes of items.

I worked at McGill University full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Mellow co-workers, flexible schedule, easy work, decent pay. Had the opportunity to learn more about something that really interested me, and to participate in something that I believed in.

    Cons

The actual work is not very difficult, it wasn't really stimulating in the intellectual sense. It could get boring, I sometimes found myself distracted and wasting time.

I worked at McGill University as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

Great environment to work. The focus is on education. I had a great experience working as a TA for a class. The professors were helpful to coach us to become better leaders as we are young students.

    Cons

The financing of the university has been diminished in the last few years. Job security is on decline. While on contract, it takes a long time before receiving the cheques.

I worked at McGill University as a contractor

I worked at McGill University part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

I got paid. Not very much, but it helped. Training took about four minutes. The other students working there were chill. Would recommend keeping your phone on you - it can get a little boring.

    Cons

I was a cashier. I sold books. I wasn't very good at counting (read: I was lazy), so I would usually just round up to the nearest dollar. Whatever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the hard work - you earned that high score in Bejeweled, fair and square.

I worked at McGill University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I was given the opportunity to suggest new things and learn on the go.
The job was part-time and I could do the hours whenever I had the time or when we would have an event to plan.

    Cons

I wish there was even more to do in the office since it was great to interact with colleagues while I was there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Help spread the great culture of the Desautels Career Services to the rest of McGill! There would be more happy employees for sure!
