    Pros

Most McKesson employees are professional and easy to work with. Salaries are very competitive, and the benefits, though expensive, are comprehensive. McKesson is generous with vacation time even within the first year of employment.

    Cons

McKesson isn't strong with professional development, and you can definitely get lost within McKesson Technology Solutions. MTS is constantly reorganizing, and you never know if you are going to have the same boss for more than a year. Additionally within MTS, there is a lack of vision and no technology champions. If you want a software company that has anything close to a Steve Jobs (as far as being a visionary and desiring to produce superior products), don't look to McKesson.

    Advice to Management

Start treating McKesson Technology Solutions like a software company rather than a tool to show higher profit margins for McKesson overall given that McKesson Distribution Services has such slim profit margins.

    Pros

In general, the quality of the people at McKesson is terrific.

    Cons

McKesson's technology divisions routinely lay off large numbers of employees without regard to individual performance. These decisions may be made at the top of the company, without local manager input, and can be short-sighted. While there are those who have been at McKesson for years who have moved up the ranks, it's not a company where a career path is assured - or likely, particularly with newly formed organizations.

    Advice to Management

If you believe employees are valuable resources, treat them that way.

    Pros

Small teams had great people. Folks liked helping each other out. The good managers were great to work for. Decent pay and decent benefits. Got to work from home a couple days a week.

    Cons

McKesson put all their eggs in one basket for a product no one likes. The bread and butter money maker app was shelved and support was offshored. The good managers were let go and lots of folks lost their jobs. There is no future at McKesson.

    Advice to Management

Current management is the status quo so there is no advice to them. The good managers were let go and all that are left are the ones who have no vision. You have set yourselves up for failure and it is unfortunate.

    Pros

Benefits. Paid time off is excellent so if you want a place to make a pay check and have a decent work life balance, this is the place. Don't expect to be inspired or innovative. Ideas are lost in the political game. Team dynamics are the best you can hope for giving there is no real incentive to excel beyond doing what's best to support team members. Trust and morale are LOW at best. Psychological safety to explore innovative and competitive ideas are discouraged by leadership behaviors. Not really sure what all the chiefs are actually doing.

    Cons

Pay is mediocre compared to comparable enterprises in the industry. No bonuses (at least in IT). If you have a brain, don't expect to use it often. If you enjoy check box type processess, then this is a good fit. "Agile" was a flavor of the year, replaced by traditional command and control from senior management guidelines. Middle managers we're nothing more than keepers of sticks and carrots, closely followed by a checklist status report sent to uplines. 10 years with this company and probably would have retired with the rest had it not been for complete apathy.

    Advice to Management

Nothing that hasn't been said and ignored before. This is purely for job candidates to avoid a career mistake. Management isn't at all concerned with "feedback or suggestions".

    Pros

I loved my job! Wish I was still there.

    Cons

Most work is done in silos so many applications appear very different from one another.

    Pros

Large company. Decent benefits. Supports some work from home.

    Cons

Tons of reorganization. The company continuously reorganizes and lets people go. This hurts morale.

    Pros

    Cons

Very slow moving. This is a place that people go to stay a long time. This may also be a pro I suppose.

    Pros

It's a good company to work for, they don't micro-manage and they really want you to have a good work and life balance. The people that work there are friendly and always willing to assist.

    Cons

There isn't any room for career growth within some of the departments, because they work in a silo .

    Advice to Management

There are a multitude of departments and many of them work in a silo, which can limit the career growth in those departments. I would recommend trying to find a way to bridge those departments so employees would have more career growth opportunities.

    Pros

Great team of instructional writers who were focused on best practices and adult learning theory.

    Cons

McKesson lays off seasoned employees on a regular basis. This causes continuous stress in the work environment.
