Pros
Good people, good training, and overall positive experience
Cons
Poor Mngt infrastructure, to much constant change in upper levels of decision making.
Advice to Senior Management
Detail clear and specific goals for sales organization.
Pros
Great people work here and believe in the products produced.
Cons
Lack of strategic direction and poor senior management and support.
Meet great people who felt passionately that the products we produce would benefit Clinicians and patients; unfortunately upper management did not share that vision.
Pros
Talented employees and leadership that provide a good work-life balance and learning opportunites.
Cons
Did not recognize anything negative about this company.
Advice to Senior Management
Retain top talent to maintain an edge in the business environment and preserve product knowledge acquired by employees.
Pros
Very dedicated people. Good compensation.
Cons
The company burns through it's human capital rapidly. If you are in the protected management circle you survive. If not, regardless of the contribution you have made, you can be terminated at any time. McK's lack of respect for their very experienced resources is unfortunate however it is a bonus for their competitors!
Advice to Senior Management
Come out of your offices and listen to your people. Unfortunately this will never happen. Too bad really......
Pros
Good benefits. Casual environment. Flexible hours and telecommuting.
Cons
This is an IT shop, but is not run like one. The technical architects are not cutting edge IT experts, but instead are long-tenured and questionably competent empire builders and bloviators. Management is hesitant to rid the company of this cancer because it is too metastasized in the entire process. As a result, the software development environment is out of control and very political. There is also a revolving door of management changes and re-organizations.
Advice to Senior Management
See Cons above.
Pros
Good pay
6 weeks of PTO
401k Match
Good choice of health benefits
Good ability to move within the company
It's not a sweatshop
I have worked for this company for 13 years. It was my first job coming out of college. I was thrilled to be hired. Thirteen years later, I still think that it's a great place to work. The environment is friendly and it's not a sweatshop. As with most jobs, your mileage may vary depending upon your manager. Also, the layoffs are humane. They bring in people to help with finding you a new job and let you sit at your desk for a month finding a new job.
Cons
Job turmoil
Job education not as good as it used to be
Some parts of company are not making money
If you like your job, the worst thing that you can think of is to be laid off. McKesson Information Solutions in Alpharetta is constantly moving and shifting because some parts of the company do well while others do not. Many projects get "sunsetted" because they are not competitive. It's upsetting to have to change jobs every 3-5 years. The one part of the company that is making money hand over foot is Managed Services, so if you can find a job in that organization, do it. Also, the education part of McKesson used to offer in-classroom training. These days, those training rooms are ghost towns. I learned a lot during the in-classroom training and it helped my career 100%.
Advice to Senior Management
Re-hydrate the in-classroom training, especially the technical training.
Pros
This is a very big company with a solid and very stable future. Great benifits, lots of opportunity to gain experience.
Cons
Thought I was compensated well, discovered that I was not paid as well as in other industries. Actually didn't figure that out until a new hire came in at a director level. I saw that his talents are not on par with mine... that prompted me to look around and discovered that I should actually be making about 30% more... It's too bad really, I was happy until I leaned how ignorance is bliss...
Employees tend to hold several titles in name only and are generally paid for the lower of the titles... For example, a product manager who is not really a "product manager" by title, wouldn't get the product manager bonus handed out each quarter.... I know!!!!
Still, a good company to work for, just wish they would pay better and compensate for the work performed. You should still jump at a chance to work here... just be sure the T gets crossed and the I gets dotted.
Advice to Senior Management
Take a look at titles, work performed and Salary paid... You might be suprised.
Pros
Ability to work from home. Flexible schedule at times. Satisfaction that the work is meaningful.
Cons
Work life balance could not be worse. 60+ hour work weeks are the norm with 80 hours not uncommon. No comp time or other compensation for the long hours. While the working from home is a nice benefit you are forgotten about and there is no recognition of the work you do.
The product is awful. Very buggy and impossible to install.
Advice to Senior Management
Get a plan to create a cleaner product. The clinicals product needs to have less bugs and a better installation process. The desire to push the product out the door before it is ready is short sited and the fact McKesson has not lost more clients is a testament to the employees amazing efforts.
Pros
Good team members, that's all I can say.
Cons
No work/life balance
Management is not supportive
Management is clueless of what working technology should be
The product I implemented was at least 30 years old when purchased by McKesson. Piece of garbage. Can someone say due diligence?
McKesson is now battling a poor reputation with clients and would LOVE to blame their employees, however, the lack of support and knowledge by senior management is astounding.
Management lack of accountability
Travel is too extensive.
Funeral leave is disrespected at every level. Shameful, shameful, shameful.
Best thing I ever did was leave this organization.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice to management, it really doesn't mean anything to them.
Pros
Good team working enviroment where most employees work hard for the company and their customers. Most managers especially at mid-manager level respect their employees and treat them fairly. In addition I believe that in general the compensation is above average as well as the benefits provided.
Cons
Very focused on quarterly performance which tends to keep company from having a long term view of customer relationships. In addition since company growth has been almost exclusively thru acquisitions, there are significant problems with product integration and internal product development which has resulted in recent loss of many customers.
