    I worked at McKesson Medical-Surgical

    Pros

My immediate boss was supportive. I meet some great people.

    Cons

The employees do not feel appreciated and there isn't enough done to make them feel valued. They are given tremendous amounts of work and then told that budget won't allow more bodies to help.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You frequently ask for employee surveys but changes are not implemented so they feel like what's the point.

I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical as a contractor

    Pros

The people you work with want to do good work
It is a great place to start working if you are desperate to get into the medical industry because McKesson has the weight and you work with the complexities of Medicare.
    Donuts on Friday

    Cons

Managers particularly and higher ups don't know whats going on and refuse to address problem in the foreseeable future. Then when mistakes happen they blame people that are no longer with the company and task other ppl to fix it.
There are a lot of people that are very bright that have to take on a lot of responsibility even though it is not in their job description because management, particularly in feeding pumps doesn't know what's going on.
The compensation is way below market and benefits are almost non-existent. Look elsewhere if you can.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have more direction with your departments and don't hire people that are just going to sweep problems under the rug.

    Pros

Good benefits and pay. I felt that I had plenty of opportunities to grow with the company.

    Cons

Sometimes you feel like a number, but I suppose that's typical of a large corporation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

PSS was recently acquired by McKesson. This has led to some great strategic positioning of the company making it by far the leader in this market. The absolute best part of the acquisition is the fact that the company has taken an objective approach to each company's processes and moved forward with the best one. Benefits are great including stock purchasing plan, 401k match, health, dental, and life. Work can be very fulfilling as you can see direct results of your labor. There isn't a day that goes by in this fast paced, always evolving company that has good leadership and tends to see trends prior to the competition. It always feels good to be on the winning team, and there is no indication that this segment of the company will be losing anytime soon.

    Cons

With some key components to the merger coming down the line work life balance has been atrocious. There's no plan that management has put into place to make anyone believe that this type of environment will ever get better. Resources are needed in key areas that are not being funded and the whole division is wondering if this is how life is going to be from here on out. The company is hitting goals, growing tremendously, and bigger than it has ever been. However, a new commission plan has been rolled out to the sales team at a volatile time and has the sales team questioning the motives of upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide employees with some assurance that work life balance is important to management. Culture could use a revitalization as it has been lost since the merger.

    Pros

Compensation, benefits and employee development opportunity is good. The company is flexible with work schedules and ability to work from home.

    Cons

Communication with some departments is very difficult which effects ability to get timely answers and this interferes with the ability to provide good customer service.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more proactive in retaining good workers

I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexibility with schedules. Great people we work with.

    Cons

Senior Leadership seems disconnected, not thinking big picture when making changes.
Lots of senior analysts leaving, making it more challenging for others.
Micromanagement of employees, it used to be that they were treated as professionals, now it's how to get more and more out of the employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat employees as professionals instead of micromanaging them. Look at the big picture, and make strategic decisions based on that, too many knee jerk reactions.

I have been working at McKesson Medical-Surgical full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Because of the size of the company, there is lots of opportunity to shine and promote growth. Cross-training with others is readily available, which allows for better coverage of processes.

    Cons

Offered a decent starting salary, but not much room for negotiation. It may take a little longer to work up to a more desired salary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's good to have a manager who does not micromanage, but without being too hands off.

    Pros

Big company that makes great profits. Has great benefits.

    Cons

They have bitten off more than they can chew, by buying up several other companies. That puts a lot more work, including 24/7 work on their employees. Pay raises are only nominal, while the executives are making BIG salaries.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share at least a little more of the profits with the employees that do all the work for you.

    Pros

Free fitbit and donuts on Fridays....that is about it...there is literally nothing that I would recommend about the company they are Jurassic with the technology

    Cons

Equipment doesn't work properly, managers are rude, no formal training, extremely clique like atmosphere. Lack of diversity, not a good place for people under 30

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upgrading the software would eliminate the need for the majority of the accounts receivable department and they should begin taking credit cards online.
