I have been working at McKesson full-time

    Pros

Pay is pretty good. The schedule is pretty flexible for those of us lucky enough to be full time employees. Working from home is also an option for several days a month. Since documentation is not maintained, we are not held accountable for mistakes as much as we could or should be.

    Cons

No documentation tracks decisions or development processes. Development is able to determine how the software should work. There is no reason for lower and middle management to be honest about development and testing issues. Anyone who is truly honest about progress will not be promoted. Contractors with little experience are added to our projects on a regular basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop strict SDLC policies and enforce them. Demand honesty from our managers and develop great software rather than strive to meet delivery dates to the detriment of our customer base.

I have been working at McKesson as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

They have a lot of training available.
Multiple locations so you can work in the city near you.
Covers various areas of healthcare so you can find a fit for you.

    Cons

No work life balance. Lot of overtime. Hires contractors instead of FTE to fill in. No resolutions to the problems. Blame put on budget, including changes that don't require money (process change). Lack of training and poor communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on issues and listen to your current staff instead of laying more process on them, without resources or training. Management is not in tune with staff.

I have been working at McKesson full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Smart growth plan; company is a giant and well managed

    Cons

very decentralized; lack of equitable hiring for management; for world's largest health services company, very bad health benefits package

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start taking an oversight role in the BU's before their growing risks undermine the value and longevity of the Company as a whole

I have been working at McKesson full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    Benefits and benefits and benefits

    Cons

This company is a micro-managing, cliquish, nepotism company. The managers/directors/vice presidents should all be fired and new management should be hired to help the morale in this company. No growth potential unless you are in the in crowd.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Quit.

I have been working at McKesson full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

One Post location is centrally located in Financial District. Wholesale/distribution side of business is very stable. The health programs (e.g., Fitbit, points, Vitality) are great. Training opportunities are available.

    Cons

Groups are sometimes silo'd. The regulatory and compliance needs inherent with healthcare sometimes impact projects and can cause delays. Compensation seems lower than in other areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more to retain younger hires.

I have been working at McKesson part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Pay for type of work is much higher compared to other companies. The 401k match is comparable to other companies of this size

    Cons

Hard work which should be expected. Several supervisors for small number of employees. Each supervisor has their own expectation for their reports which can lead to inequities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be consistent on policy enforcement. Make yourself more available to staff by being present in the work place. Assume that staff would rather meet with you in private instead of an open office with several other supervisors listening in on your conversation.

I have been working at McKesson as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

The people there are really nice.

    Cons

No training program or material. I was left there to figure out the job with little aid. I was hired as a contractor and was told not to return after my 3rd day. No valid reason was given. I received a phone call telling me to not return.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Communicate better with new hires.
