I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fantastic culture that brings out the highest quality work in most people
Amazing exit opportunities--a year at McKinsey is worth 2 or 3 years at other jobs
Huge responsibility--I was actively working with senior executives from day one

    Cons

The hours can be stressful, as can the "up or out" culture. Statistically speaking, most people are not making it to the partner level. I left for business school and knew I would not come back because of the lifestyle constrains.

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Great brand name
Open doors since its a great polishing school
Probably better than being at Bain or BCG

    Cons

    Political beyond belief
Insecure leadership that sees McKinsey's position become less tenable by the day, and becoming more of a rubber stamp openly
Its a bunch of fiefdoms knitted together by outsourced page making, research teams (that basically google stuff for you) and boiler plate material used as 'knowledge documents'
Really nothing more to add, the lifestyle everyone is aware of, go in with your eyes open. Don't know why people are complaining about it, everyone knows about it!!

I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great professional development, strong people to work with, interesting work that impacts clients in a meaningful way, many international opportunities, partners that care about your development

    Cons

The only downside of working at McKinsey is the travel and sometimes longer hours. If you are fine with knowing that going in, it is one of the best places to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue doing what you are doing.

I worked at McKinsey & Company as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Enables quick career advancement if you can stick with it for a couple years.

    Cons

80-90 hrs/week of busy work. Little learning new of concepts, very little mentoring, and constant criticism. Some coworkers will throw you under the bus to get ahead. Very hierarchical - problem solving discussions are open for everyone to express their ideas, but at the end of the day, the most senior person in the room makes the decision. Performance ratings are based primarily on how much your management likes you, not as much on your output.
