I have been working at McKinsey & Company full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Amazing company with outstanding benefits. Working with the smartest people you will ever meet.

Very generous compensation model as well across all levels. Looks great on the resume and very supportive of other opportunities.

    Cons

The hours are very long.... very, very long. Be prepared to learn more than you will at any other company, but at the lost of your personal life and your relationships.

Additionally, clients are very demanding. We charge the most, and they expect the most. It comes at a cost.

    Advice to Management

Don't force people to be up or out. Develop a program that allows a high performing employee to slow down their trajectory. Not every person wants to get promoted. Find a way to make "the funnel" work for those that don't want to speed through it.

    Pros

Great compensation, lots of training and support. Excellent work environment to continue your on going education enabling you to grow as a researcher.

    Cons

There a significant number of research projects happening at the same times base upon changes in the political climate. This can be overwhelming at times.

    Advice to Management

Continue to support your researchers and help motivate them through the most difficult workloads.

    Pros

+ Lots of feedback - to the point where you know exactly who you are.If you don't then they will define who you are
+ Great healthcare, travel perks etc.
+ Very patient with people - lots of people screw up but they are more patient than anyone else in the world

    Cons

+ Very hard if you don't drink the coolade - if you do, then you will be very happy
+ Teams are a big hit or miss - if its a great team, then there is nothing better in life. If bad, then nothing worse

    Advice to Management

You only realize your impact when you step away - we don't do a good job of reflecting on our impact.

    Pros

    - Work with talented, motivated people from all walks of life who come together to learn the McK way and create impact together
    - Very quick to learn new skills that are valuable within McK and outside
    - Quick promotions and pay increases year on year

    Cons

    - High stress lifestyle - long hours, "always on", lots of travel likely
    - Serve large companies on their old guard problems - not exciting new companies on cool stuff
    - Very tribal - need to find your people to get their back

    Advice to Management

Truly create ways for consultants to be "entrepreneurial" early on - thinking of new ways to bring value to clients and new clients to do this with. Even 1+ associates could help here - don't need to learn the full AP, EM or even associate tool-kit to be a contributor to generating new business
