    I worked at McLane Company

    Pros

Everyone is friendly. When I started out and needed help, there was always someone to assist me.

    Cons

Some workers would talk and their work would slow down. Or they would use their phone.

    I worked at McLane Company

    Pros

Texas weather and the people I worked with

    Cons

Look up micro maanger and you will see a picture of my manager. The manager had her favorites and I wasn't one of them. There has to be a reason so many people go through the JDE group.

I have been working at McLane Company full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Fast moving company with a lot of responsibility

    Cons

Not a strong sense of work life balance, very much a good ol'boy system in place. Some great managers, but also some very weak ones. A lot of talk about company values, but then hire a director that has filed personal bankruptcy more than once.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are the greatest asset you have. You need to treat them as such.

I worked at McLane Company (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Free product samples at meetings

    Cons

    No vacation first year
    "good-old boys club"
    No communication
    Lower pay than industry average
    Prayers at meetings

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change to words in the chant from "Spoil the Customer" to "Spoil the BIG Customer." McLane does not care about independent or small chain customers or long-term customers.

I worked at McLane Company full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company is large and seems to be good about promoting from within. In the year and a half that I was there I saw lots of people move around and many move UP. While I eventually moved to a job outside of the company, I have to believe that had I stayed, I would have been given ample opportunity to grow there.

    Cons

The position that I was in was not incredible but that's no fault of the company. I did not seek other employment within the company.

I worked at McLane Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pay and benefits were acceptable.

    Cons

Really bad culture. Everything is top down. Upper management are Gods and everyone else is treated with little respect. If you eventually work up the ladder you get to treat other people like garbage! Very nit picky even when you perform well and exceed goals. Not open to any improvement unless it comes from an upper management. Always trying to keep employees in constant fear. Awful communication between different departments

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the work enviroment more enjoyable and focus on working smarter instead of harder. Actually listen to people on the ground. Set realistic goals for people. Try to be more upbeat and get rid of the fear culture.

    Pros

Very competitive pay and 401k cant be beat. Also the opportunity for advancement is very high. Very fair work policies with many incentives such as safety and production.

    Cons

Not really many sometimes the hours can be long but if you like money that is a good thing so con or not, up to you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees and maybe ask advise from the people doing the job....
