Memphis, TN

Current Employee – been working at McLane Foodservice full-time for less than a year

ProsThe pay is outstanding, as are the benefits. I have no problem with the management, they are very fair, give me, as a driver, lots of runs, I am super busy, and get paid awesome for the work I do. It is a very fast paced, physical job, but well worth it for the money you'll get. I got a raise to level 2 driver after 90 days.

ConsAs a driver on the extra board, I am rarely home. Once you get a scheduled route, it will be more consistent.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep doing a great job!

Carrollton, TX

Current Employee – been working at McLane Foodservice full-time for more than a year

ProsVery solid company, good position to build accumen/knowledge, growing like a wildfire

ConsVery limited upward mobility, quiet "hunker down" environment, needs personality

Advice to Senior ManagementTop heavy with middle management. As a result, promotions are few and far between and when they do occur they are tiny salary increases that aren't worth it. Grow your educated workforce who can handle a larger workload. Have a smaller staff and pay them better.

Phoenix, AZ

Former Employee – worked at McLane Foodservice full-time for more than 10 years

ProsGreat Pay, outstanding 401k, great benefits, stable company

ConsVery poor management with a lot of favoritism. Absolutely no loyalty to employees, expect write ups for every little thing. Management never listened to driver concerns hence problems were never fixed. As long as product got off the truck, that is all they cared about. Absolutely will not promote from within!

Advice to Senior ManagementBack your employees, listen to their concerns and become the company you once were that said you were all about the employees

Tualatin, OR

Former Employee – worked at McLane Foodservice

ProsIf you like working alone throughout the shift it was ok. The shifts are 4 10's which gave additional time for family.

ConsBenefits- These were horable, at 150 dollars a check plus co-pays at the doctors office I pretty much made about 12 dollars an hour.

General Manager- The GM of this place needs to be terminated. This particular warehouse has raised the standards to extreme levels in order to make himself shine. Selecting orders at %99.95 is ridiculous compared to other warehouses set at %99.80. The standards are so high that I have gained seniority at a fast pace while seeing the retention rate of employees be reduced significantly.

Conclusion- At the Tualatin Oregon warehouse it does not matter how good of an employee you are, how willing and able, or how much pride you have in your work and the company...You are a dime a dozen and will eventually be let go.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet the General Manager out of there and allow for some mistakes...we are only human. Current management (besides the GM) does an ok job and I think the company would do alot better if they valued employees apposed to pushing them out based on standards set way to high.

ProsGreat pay compared to similar employers....excellent health benefits...great 401K with company match ($1.50 to every $1 employee contributes).....easy to schedule time off to take care of personal life.

ConsExtremely physical job....hours of work make it hard to balance work/personal life.

ProsSalary & compensation. 401K match every year when other companies are going under, we continue to prosper due to the high level performances of every employee regardless of status. We make it 'ours' and take individual ownership to 'make it happen' every single day.

ConsNo 'cons' to getting an honest days pay for an honest days work.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work !

ProsNot really anything good to say about this company. If I had to pick something I guess I would say money is decent after a year.

ConsNo social life at all. Job demands overtime every day and management will berate the team for excessive overtime without regard to necessities of job. This company is in a race to the bottom, where employees work harder for less and the top brass reaps all the rewards.

Advice to Senior ManagementMy advice to leadership. Start looking for your replacements. Seek individuals that posses a solid set of American ideals and ethics. Once they are up to speed, leave the company.

ProsFor what the position holds in responsibility the pays outstanding. The company doesn’t force you into anything you don’t want to do. Also they don’t frown upon you when you don’t want to help them out of a tight situation “ involving working extra hours”

ConsMangers make some decisions that leave you as the employee wondering what planet they came off. You can truly see how favoritism takes place. You go above and beyond, and recognition will be given to the next employee just for doing their job. “If your- self motivated the moneys good” if you constantly need a pat on the back look somewhere else. OH almost forgot. From our CEO and I quota “Changes are coming, and if you don’t like them, don’t show up to work Monday”

Advice to Senior ManagementDon’t just hear what your employee’s have to say, listen to them it’s a part of the 5 step management functions. Also if you’re a manager, a few classes on how to effectively be one wouldn’t hurt either.

Prosbenefits, pay, only working 4 days a week

Consearly mornings, long days, supervisors who have never delivered or ridden in a truck.

Advice to Senior ManagementRide on a route for one week. also show some sympathy when someone is sick and needs to call in. some people never call in and when they do you ask 20 questions and try to get them to come on in..
