I have been working at McLaren Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits were competitive at the time

    Cons

There was no accountability for jobs not being completed and there were to many chiefs and not enough indians.

    Advice to Management

The employees will work hard and be loyal if they are treated like they matter. Making the CEO's pockets heavier and becoming real-estate wealthy as a company while cutting back benefits to employees, delaying negotiation contracts and raising health insurance cost will only make employee ethics decline and the health care provided by McLaren nothing but the minimum.

    Pros

Friendly staff and good management teams. This is a union hospital so you have limits on patient to nurse ratios which is nice. Lots of opportunities.

    Cons

Sometimes we run out of linen or supplies on the weekends. Can also have heavy yes that aren't split according to acuity.

    Advice to Management

Be more patient focused and think less about profit.

I have been working at McLaren Regional Medical Center full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Upper management wants to initiate some good changes their problem is in HR. They want to introduce programs to get everyone to cooperate which will make a great work environment.

    Cons

They refuse to pay for experience. If you work their 20 years you will receive base pay. No one receives a pay increase after they get hired unless they quit and then come back. Experience is evaluated only at your hire date.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff for their experience or tell them up front that what they have is all they will ever get.

I have been working at McLaren Regional Medical Center full-time

    Pros

Good size hospital, so not too crazy all the time. my lab colleagues are awesome despite horrible management and being overworked. The hospital has a nice environment, but there are places that need updating, especially the lab.

    Cons

Overworked, short staffed, under appreciated. Haven't been there long enough to see things improve really, but from what I hear, things have been this way for a long time. Managers are clueless and have no involvement with their employees or know how to do benchwork. This is an issue because they can't help when questions are asked or when we are swamped. This also leads to nothing being accomplished and a very One sided environment in which decisions are made for employees without their input. You are always short staffed and even more so when someone calls in and the spot is not filled. Due to bad weather, we had one tech, to work third shift and management sees nothing wrong with this because "the work is getting done".

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, be more involved in actual work. We need managers who know what they are doing in lab.

    Pros

Health, vision and dental insurance, Union

    Cons

No room to move up, 98% of job postings are created for someone or posted with someone in mind, Management turnover is scary crazy- always being walked out and then someone is hired from the president's little pool of previous coworkers.

    Advice to Management

You could not pay me $100,000 a year to come back to your poorly run corporation.
