Former Employee – worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare as an intern for less than a year
Pros – Leadership is transparent about the state of the business. Management has many official development plans to ensure fairness in evaluation of work.
Cons – J&J prides itself on its brands, even though the Consumer brands are worthless with no differentiation from private label. The company allocates no money to Consumer. The factories are disgusting with little quality assurance, resulting in the recalls. Marketers have huge egos yet pride themselves on the amazing "people" at J&J. These people have problems spelling out when there's a problem and are awful at giving feedback (i.e., they don't provide any). They hate employees who like to challenge the norm.
Awful work/life balance -- marketers often work 8am-7pm.
The business is going down as a result of the product supply issues, and there's no recovery in sight.
Advice to Senior Management – Recognize strong workers instead of kiss-ups.

Current Employee – been working at McNeil Consumer Healthcare full-time
Pros – Decent pay and benefits. Opportunities to learn from people from all over pharma, who have come in for the Consent Decree.
Cons – The company is fracture between base business and consent decree. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. People are either overloaded or twiddling their thumbs, and management can't see the difference. My particular boss is a nightmare - senior management and HR know about it, and won't take action. I will be leaving soon, as this company is making decisions that are risking its future.
Advice to Senior Management – Gain better alignment across the VPs. Change managers when they clearly are having a negative effect on their areas, as evidenced by repeated departures. Focus on building a solid system, rather than on changing the templates for the Consent Decree documentation yet again.

Former Employee – worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare full-time for less than a year
Pros – Great pay and benefits, great name for resume. The MBA programs are well-run
Cons – J&J did not roll with the challenges posed by the economy in 2009 as well as I would have hoped. While the MBA recruitment and subsequent placement/programming is very good, the development programs for those new recruits coming straight out of college lack training, oversight, and mentoring.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay attention to the skills each member of the team brings to the table so you can utilize all of your advantages.

Current Employee – been working at McNeil Consumer Healthcare
Pros – -On-site gym and daycare.
-Generally strong camraderie among peers
-Strong Management support of work/life balance, flex time, work from home.
Cons – -Highly matrixed structure has led to a bureaucratic environment that is endlessly frustrating. It is often difficult to complete even simple tasks.
-Very few internal promotions within recent years.
-Employees are constantly asked to do more with less. Days are long and exhausting, and often thankless.
Advice to Senior Management – Revert to a more simplified organizational structure.

Former Employee – worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare
Pros – I like working here good place, good salary, the culture is a little too soft but overall great place to work for
Cons – Management needed to be more open to employees suggestions it's a big company so it's hard for the little guy to be heard.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more receptive to your employees and their suggestions also create more centralized structure use the full strength of Johnson & Johnson .

Former Employee – worked at McNeil Consumer Healthcare
Pros – At Mcneil the employees are friendly and family oriented... Everyone is welcomed with open arms. I liked the fact that the dress code is business casual.
Cons – employees seemed to be a bit gossipy at times.. employee reviews to interns sometimes aren't fair and too harsh for an intern who is only there for 10 weeks.
Advice to Senior Management – Make the intern program as important as the co-op program. try to extend the intern program to more than 10-12 weeks.
