Outstanding company, very family friendly and focused on their employees.

    Summer Intern (Former Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsThey have family friendly events, such as museum tours. McNeil in Ft.Washington, PA encourages employees to work out on their lunch break. They are very consumer focused. I worked with sales and marketing quite a bit to develop a capacity analysis for disaster scenarios. This was one of my favorite projects as it combined my engineering degree with my MBA and MEM degrees. I was just a summer intern, but loved working for them.

ConsThe real disadvantage was that I only had 3 months at McNeil as I returned to Northwestern to finish my MBA program.

Advice to Senior ManagementMaintain the MBA summer intern program. It was a wonderful experience for me.

Perhaps coordinate housing for interns, as this was my only negative experience.

"YOU WON'T GO GRAY AT J&J"

    Associate Director (Former Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsThey are family oriented. Fast-past highly demanding inclusive culture.

ConsOnce you become 40, beware. During a recent "downsizing" 80% of those let go were over the age of 40. Coincidence? I think not.

Consent Decree can be stressful for the emloyees.

    Validation Analyst (Current Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsThe company puts in a lot of effort to train the employees.
The Company Credo "One Dream One Team", says a lot.
Employees work hand in hand to reach a goal as a team.

ConsVery aggressive deadlines, sometimes hard to achieve, as the approvals are dependent on Quality Team (CSV QA) and due to the consent decree there is one more layer added, which makes the approval process slower.
A lot of times aggressive deadlines create a very stressful working environment which is a hindrance to produce good results.

Advice to Senior ManagementSee a bigger picture.

Great place to learn & build your career, but then maybe move on.

    (Current Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsMcNeil is fast-paced, engaging, and full of some incredibly smart people. The overall company culture is very family-like and really feels like a small team, especially when it comes to cross-functional interactions. If one is looking to build general management knowledge, this is a great place to do it.

ConsMcNeil and J&J as a whole tends to get very enticed by bringing in new people from "the outside", even though they have incredible internal talent. This leads to a lot of strong, well-versed people leaving to be promoted elsewhere, while less than stellar people assume middle-management roles. Senior management is also very "in the details" due to the current consent decree environment, which can be stifling, unnerving & frustrating.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide autonomy to your people and trust them to do a good job.

    Age is doomed

    Chemist (Former Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsIt paid well. It is a job.

ConsMy contract ended because, as it was out,"You are an old car, we want a younger car.

Advice to Senior ManagementThey are already in deep trouble, they are under consent decree, because they got rid of long time employees. The place is run by unexperience people. m All this to save money.

    Good learning experience all-around

    Engineering Co-Op (Former Employee)
    Fort Washington, PA

ProsGreat cafeteria, good work environment. There was a lot of good people with good values around. Corporate discounts on J&J products.

Cons2010 was a challenging year for McNeil. There were some issues with production and some outdated quality systems which led to tough financial times for the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpdate your business practice to the appropriate levels, come back strong with great products and a good PR campaign with good advertising.
