    ProsBenefits + 401k
    Work hours
Decent pay if you can negotiate well

ConsNo leadership. CEO relies on $$$ consultant to make decisions.
    Old school corporate. Gender/racial preferences.
Their definition of cultural diversity = have a few african american people here and there.
HR is incompetent at every level.
    IT managed poorly.

A very positive place to work

    Systems Analyst (Former Employee)
    Springfield, MA

ProsI always felt like my work had value. There was a comfort level that let people focus on doing their work instead of ploting how to survive the next fall of the axe. In general if you needed information to do your job people were helpful. I never felt the need to pretend that I knew anything that I didn't.

ConsSometimes they may have been a little slow to deal some personel problems. It also seemed like there was a tendency for plans to become objectives in there own right instead of being judged against the objectives the plan was intended to serve. There was a big tendency to filter out bad news as it went up the chain of command.

MWV has provided an excellent environment for me to grow and learn new things. Everyday offers a new challenge.

Senior Technology Solutions Analyst (Current Employee)
    Richmond, VA

ProsVery conservative company that is not known for widespread downsizing and typically will only do so as a last resort. Provides a pension (cash balance) plan, 401K match, and matches money put into HSAs.

ConsSelective development of employees, not all employees get a fair crack at advancement and development oportunities.

Advice to Senior ManagementUnderstand the talent level of your team and always continue to challenge them.

    ProsGreat Experience at the mill
    Good Pay for an intern

Good work challenges, many good people, a little too cautious at times.....

    Director (Former Employee)
    Richmond, VA

ProsMWV has high ethical standards. In general, leadership is willing to listen to new ideas in most departments. There are some very successful businesses within the company.

ConsCorporate headquarters is a 'meeting-driven' culture. There are many professional 'meeting attenders' in Richmond. Information often seems to be over-filtered or over-messaged on its way to the top of the organization.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo a little more 'ground-truthing' on the information that you are being given. Continue with most of your initiatives. The company has a lot of potential to build on its current success.

    Great deal

    Intern (Former Employee)
    Richmond, VA

ProsSmaller plants, lots of opportunity for engineers, pretty good benefits, pay is decent. Pretty easy going work environment, and coworkers are good to work with.

ConsThe plants are pretty dirty and grungy, not the best safety record. A lot of the jobs are very labor intensive and working long hours.
