I worked at Meadowbrook Meat Company full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Great pay. Averaged between 87k to 110k from 1st year on.

    Cons

On the road away from family all the time. Management (Didn't used to be this way) treats employees like robots. As long as you're working and not questioning safety practices all is good (running grossly overweight trucks out on the road).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice What You Preach..... You have some good supervisors there, untie their hands and let them do their job right. Stop micromanaging everything from the top.

    Pros

They offer competitive wages and Benefits

    Cons

Don't listen to employee's, unapproachable, only worried about the bottom line and not the employee's

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Grow up and understand that employee's make the profits and they need to be listened to and supported

I worked at Meadowbrook Meat Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

I started there as a young man and traded my back ,knees, arms and youth for a paycheck.
    After 23 years I had

    4 weeks of Vacation
1 week sick time ( not PTO )
    8 Paid Floating Holiday

    Medical Insurance - ok
    401k - ok

They have a nice Policy and Procedures Manual, but there is no consistency in it's application from Center to Center...
Management is usually brought up through the ranks , which is a good thing .

    Cons

No Real interest in growing there team from the inside out, the have invested allot of time an money in "MBM University" to train there young supervisor and managers, but what is needed is a growth plan that outlines what is needed from them and where they are at.

The tend to be focused too much on the numbers and not on the people that cause the number to rise of fall - They just miss that idea all together

The will work you to the point of exhaustion - be it hourly or management - just to raise the thru put

Need to engage management to keep moral and enthusiasm on the upward trend

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MBM reminds me of the Catholic Church

    All Talk no action
    Way too traditional
    Not willing to listen
Not willing to change thinking or doing until it's too late
Rather cover up than to deal with the issue at hand - unless it will result in a cost to the company

I have been working at Meadowbrook Meat Company full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Flexibility, depending on your supervisor. BUT - and there is a but - there's no consistency. If you work in Accounting, then you are micromanaged and the managers are spiteful and manipulative. If you work in Supply Chain or Operations, well, then you can manage your time as you need to as long as the work is done. The biggest PRO - McLane is taking over. I am holding on to see if they save us little people before I jump ship.

    Cons

Pay is terrible at the corporate level. When you try and dispute the salary, they say "it's average to what the area pays", but it's below average based on the INDUSTRY. There are some idiots making those decisions. And promotions? Ha. Not if you aren't in with or sleeping with the good ol boys club.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please McLane, I'm begging you, bring some consistency to this company. Get rid of the upper echelon of management and let the workers actually reap the benefits of their hard work, for a change. Everyone at a Director level or above needs to be dismissed and McLane needs to just take over. It's a disaster.

I have been working at Meadowbrook Meat Company full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, good working atmosphere. Work schedule is on for two days, then off for two days...only out overnight. Average pay for drivers is $52,000.00 a year

    Cons

Insurance is not the greatest, but it is reasonable in cost. Trucks are new, replaced every three years, but you slip seat...trucks get abused. DO NOT KID YOURSELF...YOU WILL WORK HARD WHEN WORKING

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work!! The management team at the Salisbury, NC Distribution Center is helpful and you are treated as a person, not a number

I have been working at Meadowbrook Meat Company

    Pros

It is better than no job.

    Cons

No promotions from within. Disciplinary system designed to take benefits away misused to retalliate against employees who report/correct managment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Just because you are a privately held company doesn't make everything you do okay or right. Sometimes you hurt people.

    Pros

    Good Work out at times.

    Cons

Managment willing/looking to use and abuse you. Believe it happens everywhere, but seen this go beyond anything expected. Supervisors shift and move loading/work done to minimize work for friends -- harass and demoralize workers for no reason -- then attempt to fluff others with ideas of promotions or changes in operation to motivate a person when it was never necessary ... just good pep skills

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hit the trenches, see what is really going on.
