    Pros

Lots of innovation and science! If you're a 20-something, the beanbag rooms, pool tables, video games and Friday beer/wine/food happy hours will absolutely be a thrill. Some departments are great to work for, others, not so much (mine is in the later category).

    Cons

Some departments function across AstraZeneca and MedI, others are separate - lots of growing pains and change and lots of fragmentation. Don't expect raises over 1.5-2.0% but bonuses can be good. Growth opportunities seem to depend on whether or not you are on a "hot" project.

    Advice to Management

Management should take a serious look in to the racially/culturally biased hiring practices rampant in some departments - and to address the seemingly "forbidden" transition to other positions in the company. Also, they should really put an effort into ensuring the two companies (AZ and MEDI) do more to function seamlessly and as one cohesive company with one goal in mind. I would also suggest they address the overwhelming push in some groups to hire PhDs for jobs that aren't traditionally a PhD level.

    Pros

Salary and benefits were great. Most technician/analyst level personnel were great to work with as well. Development is good, as long as you are on management's good side.

    Cons

Management was generally awful with too many layers, office politics rule the company, and work-life balance was non-existent. Complaining about the job is a frequent conversation topic, and it seems many current employees in all departments are looking for new positions, more than ever before. Many departments have a huge amount of turnover due to the poor environment. Development opportunities are only for favorite employees.

    Advice to Management

There's no point in providing work-life balance programs if managers won't support employees using them. Bean bag rooms won't make up for poor management, and even salary and benefits only go so far.

    Pros

The company is growing so lots of opportunities & pay is pretty good

    Cons

Have no real drive to keep good work/life balance for their employees, lots of politics and favoritism, no one in middle management seems to be held accountable for poor metrics, very little is done to improve and keep employees.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job developing talent, keeping the talent you have, avoiding favoritism, rewarding hard work & quality work, penalizing poor performance and every level (not just the tech level).

    Pros

A lot of opportunities to enhance skill sets, great networking opportunities, opportunities for poster sessions and traveling to conferences

    Cons

With such a big company it is hard to get foot into other departments unless someone gives you a good word, and have to be very careful as a temporary because most times you won't get a permanent position

    Advice to Management

Please give temporaries a change to excel and thrive in this environment. Please look out more for temporaries because they have the opportunity to do just as well as those who are permanent employees

    Pros

There is a long-term investment being made at this facility, which indicates that there will be stability in the future.

Management is genuinely committed to making this a successful operation.

    Cons

Staffing projections aren't particularly accurate, and there is some concerns that some personnel who are supposed to be temp-to-hire are in reality permatemps.

    Advice to Management

Develop a strategy for dealing with temporary employees, publish it, and stick to it.

    Pros

Flexable working schedule and oppertunity to work from home.
In general most people are extremly intellegent, motivated and professional.

    Cons

Too dependent on outsourcing by ascertaining what will save most on overhead cost. Hard work doesn't pay off, dedicated temps are not rewarded, valuable long term contracts do not have a chance at full-time positions. Often asked to complete tasks above pay grade. Workspace, desk size is a joke (barely enough for a child).

    Advice to Management

Motivate, show accountability, build relationships, make decisions that are based on productivity, not politics.
Bad leaders cost businesses billions of dollars each year, having too many of them can bring down a company.
