Current Employee - Registered Nurse in Baltimore, MD

I have been working at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

On most Med-Surg there is only a 1 on call shift requirement per six weeks and only every third weekend required.

    Cons

Staffing has not been great for over a year. Often working one or two nurses short. Frequently extra units are opened in the main parts of the hospital that were closed when the patient tower was opened. These units take from the tower units to staff. Many CNA's are unpleasant to work with and often missing from their assigned areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There does not feel like floor nurses are supported. Many of the retention reasons are gone (bonuses, nurses gala, many events of nurses week).

I have been working at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The establishment consciously attempts to improve on all aspects of the employee's experience. Managers are almost all from clinical backgrounds, there is less of a disconnect in-between management and associate. A great place to start a career, lots of learning potentials.

    Cons

Management is slow to react to changes in the job market. Management is purely reactive and not proactive; no emphasis on retention.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It's cheaper to keep your employee's than be regional training center for the competition. Listen to the employee's when they complain to management. Hold managers accountable for... anything!?!?! especially when it concerns associates quality of work.

    Pros

Very nice people to work with very close to one another.

    Cons

Some parts of the hospital are understaffed which requires people to do a lot more work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Add more nurses to certain departments like the Emergency Room

Current Employee - Pharmacy Technician in Baltimore, MD

I have been working at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great staff, very caring, Dr and Nurses knowledgeable. Most everyone willing to pitch in to make your stay or clinic visit comfortable.

    Cons

The "clique" mentality. I'm an adult and do not like feeling like I need to compete w/ a clique or Supervisors "pet" to get answers to questions or help when I need it. Too many chiefs and not nearly enough Indians.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your head out of your A## and start being leaders not following the lead of those that curry favor with you by sucking up or being your special firiend away from work. Friendship outside of work is OK< but leave that Friendship home when it comes to business dealings!!
