I worked at MedStar Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Free parking on-site (Downtown Washington, DC).

    Cons

Low wages for degree holders with years of experience in field. Leadership served as antagonist and thrived off of drama within the office. Favoritism among specific staff. Managerial bullying and mobbing. Threats of being ostracized for blowing the whistle on unethical practices. High turn over rate in administrative staff. Bias HR.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Better wages for employees. Provide leadership workshops and training for all managers. Conduct surveys for staff members as it relates to their working environment. Actually implement employees suggestions vs. utilizing information for benefits of research.

I have been working at MedStar Health

    Pros

Comprehensive associate benefit programs. Great coworkers who are dedicated to patient care. Patients come from all over to seek care. Lots of service lines available across the system.

    Cons

Facilities are in need of investment/improvement. The culture of safety is important but has many afraid of making a mistake.

I worked at MedStar Health full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Full Time opportunities, good money if you move up. Education Assistance, benefits.

    Cons

Tons of politics, there's the people who have been in the door and out the door and then the ones you have to deal with are the ones who have been there "20 years, 25 years, 15 years" that have their seniority (which is looked upon highly). You have to kiss rear to get anywhere and if you don't you will be blacklisted within the company. There's also favoritism when it comes to salary ranges. One person may be making $15 sitting next to you with less experience because they "know the manager" while someone else is making $12 because they didn't know anyone. It's definitely not based on merit. Also--get better training for specific jobs, universal training (with one trainer) doesn't work for everyone, try to find a way that benefits all learning types so people aren't fired or quitting all the time (high turn over rate).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing favorites. Hold more people accountable when they're repeat offenders. Accept the fact that you aren't perfect and make mistakes as well.

    Pros

Specific excellent researchers, physicians, nurses, others. Time off and benefits. Teams try to work together.

    Cons

Corporate operates via intimidation. Pressure, lack of support for day to day work. Mgmt out of touch. Managers label each other. Poor managers there for life. Patient safety.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at MedStar Health full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Decent benefits
    - PTO accrual is pretty generous
    - Relatively easy to get desired time off (dependent on flexibility of manager)
    - Well respected hospital

    Cons

    - Impossible to get needed resources as a non-clinical employee
    - Not a lot of oversight from upper management
    - Parking situation is abysmal!
    - Very hard to get raises/promotions -- also dependent on manager

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rather than constantly harping on what more WE can do for the hospital and how we can give to the hospital, how about doing a little more for US, the employees?

    I worked at MedStar Health

    Pros

The workers here are some of the most well-informed people that I've worked with. They're always open to change if it's going to be an improvement in patient care.

    Cons

The worst thing about working here is the parking by far. Always paying for parking is absurd.

    Cons

Locations can be a bit challenging in the winter months considering all are essential employees making commute times as long as 3 hours from in town.
