I worked at MedStar Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I really liked the people who I worked with in the laboratory/my section.

    Cons

Went from a salaried position to hourly. All Med-Techs are hourly. You have to pay for parking (it comes out of your check automatically).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create some salaried position, or you will continue to lose good employees to the public sector.

I have been working at MedStar Health

    Pros

MedStar provides great PTO time to all of their employees. You can almost get one day earned every two weeks, plus personal days and holidays.

    Cons

If you are looking for a company where you can excel and grow, this is not the company for you. The management prefers to hire employees that will not make waves and will follow orders mindlessly, even if they waste time. Many times associates are given directives that make no sense and will only "pass the buck" onto the next department so that the same problem rolls around through the many departments, unsolved for weeks or months. The big push is employee productivity, not efficiency.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is too large to change the culture there. If you want to just go for the ride and not make waves, then you are a perfect fit for them.

    Pros

This is an alright place to work. They give you bagels every friday and you have general freedom.

    Cons

There is no where to move up here. You are stuck doing data forever.

I have been working at MedStar Health full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    - The PTO is adequate, if your supervisor approves the request when you ask for it.
    - The staff are very nice but not there for long.

    Cons

    - Facilities are in dire need of attention and upgrading. I would never go to a MedStar facility as a patient knowing what I know now.
    - Low salaries are the norm across all MedStar facilities.
    - Raises are about 1.5%. It is very rare to get more than that (unheard of, so you better feel comfortable with the low-balled salary).
    - The expectation to raise concerns leads to a culture of bullying on baseless lies, which I witnessed in subordinate staff numerous times.
    - Absentee management
    - Unqualified managers and HR staff that were severely lacking in employment and HR law

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop spending on commercials/advertising campaigns and dedicate the funding to staff raises and facility improvement. The employee dissatisfaction is low for a reason. There is little reason to stay at MedStar beyond a teaching capacity. The training modules are inadequate and a poor excuse for education. There is a severe need to educate managers and HR staff in employment and HIPPA law.

I have been working at MedStar Health full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I work in patient financial services in White Marsh, MD. There is a lot of opportunity to grow and develop your career. MedStar offers tuition reimbursement for pretty much any field of study as long as you can transfer to that particular position within the company. They also offer a flex schedule which is great for work and personal life balance. Lastly, the paid time off is great compared to other companies that I have worked for.

    Cons

The compensation could be better, but the other benefits offset the low monetary compensation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to listen to the employees.

    Cons

Too large that some entities are not recognized within the larger MedStar Network

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want something done, do it yourself. It takes a long time to get a project done in MedStar.
