I worked at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was in the physiology department. The environment was great for research. I could collaborate with PIs from other departments with minimum/no problem. Some of the professor are well known researchers in the field.

    Cons

Not many intramural funding opportunities which makes the position of the faculties as well as the trainees very unstable. You may have to leave the college in the middle of your degree or training.

    Advice to Management

Create intramural funding opportunities for research. All necessary equipments are already available at the institute. What is its purpose if people not around to use them?

    Pros

Get your foot in the door of clinical research. Professional environment. People care about what they do.

    Cons

Salary is low, not much room for advancement. Benefits aren't what they used to be. High stress environment. Frequent turnaround, workload always changing.

    Pros

Great learning atmosphere for those who need to gain experience.

    Cons

Difficult to communicate with administration- they hear you but do not listen. You must always stick up for yourself because they do not have your back. Experienced employees leave because they are not competitively valued.

    Advice to Management

Take your own advice and actually act on it.

I have been working at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

This is a great place to work with great benefits. The managers in my department are great and let you do your job without micromanagement.

    Cons

The con is the pay. MCW pays well below what I would be making elsewhere with my experience and eduction

    Advice to Management

Please go back to running MCW as a research institution and not a company for profit.

    Pros

    Benefits are very competitive;

    Cons

They don't invest a lot in their employees as far as training and career advancement if you are staff.

    Advice to Management

Please think about more training and education opportunities for staff as well as a career ladder.

I have been working at Medical College of Wisconsin full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really like the people I work with. The benefits are good and great vacation time for salaried staff.

    Cons

I don't get the sense that I will have much opportunity for upward mobility. Problematic employees are often given too many chances to shape up.

    Advice to Management

Really look to promoting from within. Also, market increases should be a common occurrence. Research coordinators are being contacted by outside agencies offering higher pay creating more turnover.
