    Pros

I work in research so I am not sure this would apply to a lot of people but I find the faculty there very supportive and open to new ideas

    Cons

They have high expectations on your work ethic, which can be a good thing.

    Pros

I really like the people I work with. The benefits are good and great vacation time for salaried staff.

    Cons

I don't get the sense that I will have much opportunity for upward mobility. Problematic employees are often given too many chances to shape up.

    Advice to Management

Really look to promoting from within. Also, market increases should be a common occurrence. Research coordinators are being contacted by outside agencies offering higher pay creating more turnover.

    Pros

There really aren't any. No room for advancement.

    Cons

Poor management has led to a dissatisfied work environment. Employees are allowed to do almost anything they like and the rest of us are told it is very difficult to fire employees. Or, I also have been told the employee/s do just enough to get by.

    Advice to Management

Manage-stop being afraid to be a manager.

  7. I think the medical college is an all around nice place to work.

    Pros

Very nice co-workers, a supportive department, generous time off, and pretty nice benefits.

    Cons

Low pay, some departments(not mine) show favoritism.

    Advice to Management

Adjust the current pay scale. It is not competitive. It used to be a few years ago because the benefits made up for the low pay. Now the benefits aren't as great as they used to be and no one has seen an increase in pay to make up for that.

    Pros

Job stability, good (but declining) health coverage. Excellent research facilities.

    Cons

Highly inbred academic environment. Some departments are staffed mainly by faculty who did all their training right here. Many, many underperforming staff in administrative and other support positions (even lab research personnel) are retained despite embarrassingly low productivity and incompetence.

    Advice to Management

Adopt some rigorous standards for performance and abandon the non-stop chanting about diversity. Stop promoting every faculty failure to a newly-created deanlet position - terminate a few people and some of the mediocre faculty will step it up, if they can.

    Pros

    Work performed on own time.

    Cons

Current culture wants Techs to do same/more work as a PhD, so they can save money.

  11. Not what it used to be.

I worked at Medical College of Wisconsin

    Pros

Interesting work with research and patient care as well as educating the next generation of physicians and researchers and health care professionals.

    Cons

In the past the excellent benefits off set the low pay but recent changes have slowly eroded the benefit package while retaining the low compensation base. In addition, the decentralized organization allows for department administration to unevenly administer corporate policy.
