I have been working at Medidata Solutions full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The culture is unlike any place I have ever worked. We have gone through a few growth spurts, and most have been managed very well. The company is in the healthcare space which needs a lot of help when it comes to technology. This is great for business! I've seen some reviews on here that are good and bad (and some even seem planted) so let me get real with you about Medidata: -The founders still run the place, which means this is a lifestyle for them, which means the passion is still there and that is ALWAYS a good thing for a thriving business. Tarek and Glen are pretty grounded too. It's good to see. -Many comments here seem to bash a "New HR" department, but i've never had a problem. I've always been able to talk candidly and they are quite helpful. -I've never had to ask for a raise, or threaten to leave to get a raise or promotion. I know people do that, but the management here treat you right if you do good work. -We are light years ahead of our competition, and barrier to entry in this market is very high. People stay here because leaving the company to goto a competitor is usually a step down. -The New York office is an awesome atmosphere. Creative, fun, energetic, and young. -Unlimited Vacation - which in reality you probably won't take more than 3 weeks, 4 weeks, but it's nice not to track. -Flexible work schedule. Working remote is the best and it would be very hard to work full time in an office ever again. You are expected to pull your weight, and go into the office when needed, but no one is playing Bill Lumburgh here. We're all adults.

    Cons

If you are in any other department besides Sales or sales related, life is harder, and rewards are not as good. It all depends on what you like to do with your job. If you love to be a project manager, then you love a challenge. If you love to code, then you are in the right place. You'll love what you do, but bonuses are much lower outside of sales (which matches the high risk high return philosophy.) -The company is starting to grow up, so some "big company" policies are starting to emerge. This isn't the end of the world, but is one of the final nails in the startup company coffin. -The 401k match is pretty low (3% i think) but there are a host of other benefits. It's not always about the money. -Career paths are tough and not always laid out. Some people will climb the ladder very fast, while others do not. Like anything in life, you need to work for what you get. No one will get promoted because "they checked all the boxes." No one is entitled to anything. That being said, there are a lot of politics involved especially over the past 2 years. Know how to play the game, but be real to yourself and your team. -You work a lot here, so the work life balance is tough to manage. However, would you rather do your 9-5 making widgets and that's it? Some people need more, so this is a con only if you are done with this lifestyle.

    Advice to Management

Tarek keeps saying, "If we continue to execute, we will exceed all of our expectations." Keep doing that.

    Pros

Great team, good environment, great leadership and vision.

    Cons

Growth happened faster than resourcing. Divided locations. Occasional poor collaboration between Sales and Operations.

Thanks for the comment! We are very much aware that Medidata's rapid growth has, in the past, been at a faster pace than the internal talent acquisition team could hire! But, the internal team is ... More

Technology development using cutting edge tools, developing cutting edge media protocols for SOA development. Allows innovation time for personal development and growth.

    Cons

Sometimes seems disconnected in teams. Parts developed by some teams not ready for use in prime time. A platform that needs some more time.

    Advice to Management

Sit back take inventory of product, give attention to be a more uniform experience.

I worked at Medidata Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Medidata has a flexible work schedule. As long as you got your work done people don't mind you working remote. The people that you work with are very knowledgeable and you build great relationships within the work environment. What you work on makes a difference in outcomes and you can see the results through the data. Unlimited PTO is great so you can take time off when you need it.

    Cons

Management talks about wanting to work on quality but shortcuts are still taken. Management doesn't always listen to those on the ground and try to push you to get things out the door which leads to lower quality. When it comes to promotions, there is favoritism so if you "are in" with those above you, you will more than likely get promoted quicker. Pay could be better.

    Advice to Management

If you truly care about quality don't take short cuts! This could mean delaying a release to ensure that everything is working as it should be.

I have been working at Medidata Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Seems like a solid place to start your career. Management invests in, and encourages, rapport building activities. Some very nice, competent people mixed in. Generous time off.

    Cons

Agree with others that advancement within the company is virtually nil. Some exceptions but management tends to be indifferent and/or inexperienced. A surprising number of teams can be truly toxic because of this weak management. If one finds themselves on one of these teams leaving the company is the only recourse since moving within the company is almost unheard of. The office is marketed as open plan but is more of a call center meets trading floor. Privacy is non existent, the noise is intrusive, and conference rooms are always booked.

    Advice to Management

Consider making work from home standard or redesign the office space. Open plan + sorely lacking conference rooms = a miserable, impossible work environment. There are days it feels like you're trying to conduct business in Penn Station. It's embarrassing to have clients frequently complain that they can't hear you over the background noise. Insurance options should include a "middle of the road" plan. Current options are bare bones or too expensive relative to salaries. Pay attention to dysfunctional teams as a whole instead of targeting one employee per team.

    Pros

Good culture, excellent peers, and ownership has an idea what they want to do.

    Cons

New HR and Facilities Management does not have a clue. They are trying to run a small company with a corporate mentality and its not being very successful.

    Advice to Management

Understand where you came from to get to where you are trying to go.
