Pros – 90% coverage on health insurance. Extremely flexible and very family oriented. Always looking for lifetime employees, almost impossible to get fired.
Cons – Almost impossible to get fired, therefore many incompetent workers who just get shifted from job to job. Slow and old school approach to project creation. Not very open to "take charge" kind of attitude.
Advice to Senior Management – Cultivate, motivate and encourage employees who are strong and competent. Do not keep incompetent people around for the sake of 'feeling bad'.

Pros – Meditech is a stable company, with 40+ years in business and noone laid off, EVER. A 40 hour workweek is legitimately a 40 hour workweek, you aren't expected to work overtime, weekends, and the like. Since all external hiring is strictly entry level, supervisors, managers and the like most likely worked, at some point, in the same job you do, keeping them in touch with your responsibilities. It feels a lot like a family environment, the summer picnic is superb, and the cafeteria provides decent (not great) food at a very reasonable price (which is discounted for Meditech employees relative to what other tenants in the same building pay). A significant amount of time right off the bat is spent with training and mentoring to prepare you for your responsibilities, rather than throwing you directly in the fire. The job stability, combined with the way that benefits (including bonuses) scale based on tenure make this a company that you can work for an entire career at. This is not a fly-by-night startup - they've shown a long tradition of maintaining slow, steady growth, which only adds to the stability.
Cons – As you'll see as a common theme with other reviews, entry level compensation is low, and in an area with an extremely high cost of living. As the negative point of the job stability, not everyone you have to work together with will have the same level of skill and work ethic that you may have. Some information necessary to accomplish your job duties may not be easy to find - having strong interpersonal networking skills is very important to be truly effective at your job. Different groups within the company have different rules, guidelines, and ways of working, so depending on which group you end up in, things can be entirely different from another.
Advice to Senior Management – Improving access to internal information will make it easier for a lot of people to do their job effectively. Standardizing rules and guidelines across groups would be beneficial. Otherwise, maintaining the strong focus on customer relationships is going to be the key to continuing to thrive in the industry.

Pros – Management at Meditech have all been promoted from within. With that said, it's truly the luck of the draw and you MAY end up with one of the good sales directors who are involved with their sales people, providing them with the support in order to ensure success. If this is the case you will no doubt be challenged with the lack of solid opportunities, but you will at least be treated fairly, work with your team, and your job will be palatable.
Cons – Because of the "promote-from-within" practice, a "civil-service" type environment exists, and many of the sales directors are/have been promoted simply due to seniority. When this happens, the people underneath suffer, and a successful sales environment does not exist. Ideas are held "close to-the-vest, information is not shared among team members and there is a severe lack of mentoring. A real attitude also exists when it comes to supporting customers who have invested millions, as if they are "daring" to ask for something. Meditech cannot afford to continue to behave in this manner in order to succeed in the current, frequently changing HCIS marketplace.
Advice to Senior Management – Look outside your four walls, update your business practices, and bring in help from "the outside", it can actually be a good thing! Quit "grabbing: people on the cheap and search for experienced developers, software engineers and REAL sales people. Reduce your 15+ rep sales teams so there is equal and measurable opportunities available to all. Lastly, pay a competitive, if not above average, salary to your employees, so the "bonus" each year is actually a "bonus", and stop asking your people to pay out of their pocket for YOUR business expenses.
Meditech COULD be among the best places to work in the Boston area....but even with their multi-multi millions in revenues and multiple sites...it's not surprising at all that they've never been (and never WILL be) on the list.

Pros – Casual work environment. Some very nice, helpful and efficient co-workers.
Cons – Unfortunately those co-workers never rise in the ranks. Management is terrible. Drove PtCT into the ground and had to turn to Meditech for their salvation. However, as mentioned in the title of this review, nothing has changed since 2008 when a very good and complete write up was posted. MT Boston and MT ATL do not talk to each other effectively nor do they even seem like one company yet.
Advice to Senior Management – Act ethically. Support your users/customers. Do whatever it takes to make to reward the few employees who really do care about their customers and get rid of those who don't. Create more documentation. Hire more folks in QA and Support.

Pros – Meditech trains their employees well to get them good experience. Management listens to their employees and helps them with their career.
Cons – Meditech does not pay their employees what they are worth. Employees can gain experience at Meditech and then go elsewhere for better pay.
Advice to Senior Management – If you want to keep your employees you need to pay them for what they are worth. Unless you will always have unhappy customers and unhappy employees.

Former Employee – worked at Meditech
Pros – Low stress, job security, profit sharing, great benefits, large number PTO days, great pay raises
MEDITECH is one of the best company's to work. Since they are a private company they determine their annual growth unlike many public company's that only care about the bottom line. The company develops all their own products which are design to function together. The do not grow by purchasing other company's and try to mesh eveything together with interfaces.
Cons – Low starting salaries in a high cost of living area, New England.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide employees with a higher salaries

Pros – If you put in your time, you'll gain enough experience to get another job easily.
Cons – Under paid, overworked and you have to crash and burn before you learn something the right way.
Advice to Senior Management – Pay your employees and make them feel appreciated! Maybe then there won't be so much turnover. Also, think about expanding outside of MA!

Pros – Everyone is nice and the workplace is very relaxing. The environment in which you work in is very stress free and not chaotic at all!
Cons – The only downside is that if you live really far away the commute can be bad since you are near Boston.
Advice to Senior Management – Thanks for all the continued support at Meditech! Everyone is great and coming to work everyday isn't a disappointment. Thanks again

Pros – Meditech is a name to conjure with. Because of its unique technology and large market share, there is a large aftermarket for Meditech IT specialists and consultants. Also, it is one of the very few places today where (at this writing) lifetime employment is a real possibility. If that is important to you, this is a company to consider.
Cons – This is a very patriarchal, paternalistic company that takes care of you as long as you say yes or nothing at all and do your job. The quality of your experience depends on your lower level management. My supervisors were among the best I've ever had, but most supervisors and lower level management just don't have the experience to be good at their jobs. Despite the emphasis on lifetime employment, starting salaries and benefits are unimpressive. I feel sorry for Neil--the founder and still top man. He desperately needs someone to tell him when he's wrong, but in a privately-held and patriarchal company, that kind of advice is hard to get. It's not as bad as some people say, but it could be a great deal better. Someone said you shouldn't think of Meditech as a poorly-paid job, but as a well-paid internship. If you don't want a lifetime gig, there's something in that attitude.
Advice to Senior Management – You could do so much better with all the resources you have, Neil. It's time to join the 21st century before someone takes advantage of all the self-inflicted weaknesses.
