Pros
Overall a great company to work for. Good benefit, good job security. Nice team to work with. I am proud to work in the medical industry
Cons
very conservative. opportunity for career development is limited. There are many people around you who have been with MDT for over 20 years.
Advice to Senior Management
Be consistent about salary, title and promotion across different functions. reward team player more. be more aggressive. listen to customers
Pros
Mission driven organization
Seeks diversity of backgrounds & talent
Cons
Some sr manager who had been around for 20 - 30 years were able to coast by with little to offer.
Pros
The company mission is something which everyone would feel comfortable adhering to. The quality standards are really high and there is continuous training available.
Cons
Colossal size of the company makes it easier for individual employees to be overlooked. The structure is not dynamic enough and there is not full oversight of all departments.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide a better overview of career advancement opportunities to people reporting to you. It would be a nice idea to offer rotation possibilities
Pros
good benefits; good best practices at the corporate level
Cons
poor leadership at the sector level
Advice to Senior Management
pay attention; apply yourselves (360 degrees; not just upward)
Pros
Medtronic is the best employer in the industry. Ethical standards are high and Medtronci is the undisputed leader in innovation.
Cons
Competiotion in the industry is fierce and MDT often looks what competition is doing. With its innovation track record MDT would be better off leading the way instead looking what competition is doing.
Advice to Senior Management
Double efforts in company streamlining. Accelerate move from medical device manufacturer to total health care provider
Pros
Vibrant, engaged people striving for excellence.
Management that listens.
Exciting projects, and opportunities to innovate, excel, and achieve great results - to be recognized for it.
Cons
Everyone seems extraordinarily busy - nearly overloaded with everything that needs to get done.
Too much seems to be Minneapolis-centric. The company needs to be more global - which starts with recognizing that great ideas and solutions can come from any location.
Advice to Senior Management
Reducing headcount seems to be too easy of a lever to pull.
However, it has enormous and often counterproductive effects - overloaded people, a tendency towards demoralization and demotivation.
Instead, focus on growth and pursuing excellence. Choose the best and brightest, give them the support, and remove the distraction of worrying about who will lose their job tomorrow. That casts a pall over things - and honestly, with these profit margins, layoffs are unnecessary and counterproductive.
Pros
Medtronic is a great company and as a Medtronic employee you are truly doing something that makes others lives better. There are many opportunities to advance your career and learn new things while working at Medtronic.
Cons
In such a large corporation it can be easy to get overlooked if you don't take control of your own career and advancement.
Advice to Senior Management
.
Pros
Strong and admirable mission continues to be key focus.
Cons
Organization currently undergoing a transition.
Advice to Senior Management
Get quality back on track before making additional aquisitions.
Pros
Great people to work with
Working with a company that improves and extends lives
Cons
Relies way too much on contractors ("temps).
If you accept a contract position with Medtronic, be prepared to be exploited. They'll just renew the contract (if you're lucky) over and over until you reach your two year limit (per policy), then lay you off. New contractors are brought in, and the process repeats.
As a contractor, you do not get their great benefits package, and you're not allowed to partake in most company functions (picnics, etc).
Medronic has evolved from a place you typically stick with for life, to a revolving door of "temp" workers.
Advice to Senior Management
Directly hire more people to keep in the long haul. Stop the annual cycle of hiring binges and massive layoffs.
Pros
good benefit and flexible working hours
Cons
Promotion process is not fair
Advice to Senior Management
Value the self contributor the same as management staff
