It has become a large company that makes a lot of money, compensates well, but is not fast moving.

I have been working at Medtronic full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

A great place for work/life balance.
You can set your own trajectory.
    LOTS of career opportunity.

    Cons

If you are a poor engineer they will move you into program management. This sometimes works out well. Other times, not too much.
Tolerate poor performers for too long.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Understand the RIF process - but you need to start keeping people that have the 30+ years of knowledge.

I worked at Medtronic full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Medtronic is a great place to work, offering excellent people, benefits, corporate offices and compensation.

    Cons

Upward mobility is limited due to contractions in core markets. Established ways of doing things rule and change is very slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respond to the radical changes in the market place with radical new ideas. The burden of previous business models cannot be immediately removed, but if not addressed and changed future growth and even maintenance of current standing will be jeapordized.

I have been working at Medtronic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The concepts of Medtronic are great. Very flexible work environment, great pay, excellent insurance and benefits package

    Cons

There is no stability. Medtronic has been making at least one layoff per year for the last 3 years. Laying off 300+ people. Employees do not feel "valued".

I have been working at Medtronic full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Ample opportunities to learn many different disciplines. Verticle integration allows this. Oeople are a joy to work with. Benefits. Work/home culture.

    Cons

Highly regulated evironment stifles competive nature and innovation. No cutting edge tech. Many levels of mismanagement. Stagnant non-growing work force. People doing the jobs of 3-4 people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick a direction and go with it. Don't spend years to decide in the end to go with thr cheapest, safest route.

I worked at Medtronic as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

    - Great work experience to put on a resume
    - Very inclusive company culture, employees always willing to help interns
    - Vast number of learning resources available to interns due to company size
    - Lots of fun intern events
    - Good pay and awesome housing arrangements downtown

    Cons

    - Most groups have no intention of hiring you after your internship
    - Almost no interns were hired on full-time (entry level job opportunities are slim-to-none)
    - Company is getting top-heavy; there were VERY FEW employees under the age of 30 in Minnesota, most are at the senior or principal experience level
