    Pros

The best thing about this job was my boss. I worked directly under a Senior Engineer who was incredibly good at his job, and i learned a lot from him. Not just about the products and processes, but how to "play the game", as he called it. He toughened me up with his no-nonsense attitude and his impossibly high expectations. I have no other positives to mention about this job

    Cons

In general, this branch (Neurosurgery) is bottom-rung Medtronic. Low pay, ugly building, no sense of company morale, everyone grumbling in the halls, and an abundance of double standards. Of the last 13 hires in my department, I was the only male. I was fired for dating a coworker (she was not fired) who my boss was fond of, and my replacement was (of course) a girl. As a contract employee, I was not allowed to go to company events, not given paid time off or benefits, and felt like a second-class employee. Also, I wasn't told any of this in the interview process even though I repeatedly asked my recruiter what I would forfeit by working as a temp. I could go on for days about the negatives, but frankly I'm just happy that I never have to go back to that building again

    Advice to Management

My only advice is to look deep within yourself and try to understand why you're such a small man who fosters such a toxic work environment. It won't work forever and you're besmirching what once was a good name

    Pros

Maybe I drank too much of the kool-aid. But I think Medtronic's mission truly guides the company and its employees. Great products, smart people, everyone knows what is expected of them and get it done. Nowadays, great opportunity for advancement, it has been embedded into our training and focus.

    Cons

Lots of politics, but its expected from such a large company

    Pros

Stable company from a stock prospective. If you are on the heart side you are good. Watch out on all other verticals in this organization. It is all about the heart!

    Cons

Focused solely on shareholder and maximizing profits quarterly. Decisions to RIFF thousands of employees due to poor upper management decisions in the first place. Long time employees released on group phone calls no regard for professionalism.

The company will lay the best people off, and then rehire. Management puts places unqualified people in sr. Positions. Lack of communication to employees.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

    - Everyone I have met here takes pride in what the company does and the company's mission - The company values work and life balance. Very flexible in general as long as you get your job done. - CEO does care to keep in touch with all the employees, he regularly conducts all employee town halls - Good benefits in general, vacation days are on the lower side, unless you have worked there for a while.

    Cons

    - Most people get stuck in their roles for a while, little room for advancement. Looks like HR focuses more on year of experience than individual's talent/contributions for promotion. - Little emphasis on career development.

    Advice to Management

Give employees more room to grow and advance their careers.
