    Pros

Hospital located in nice area and free parking

    Cons

Sterile processing department is unorganized and poorly managed. There is zero training everyone does their own thing. The pay for sterile processing technician is terrible entry level $12/hour sometimes it doesn't seem worth paying for school and getting certified because I don't see a return on my investment plus look at the cost of living. Memorial hermann pays an agency money to bring workers into the department which they make at least 8 dollars more than Hermann employees (that's entry-level)and they are allowed to receive overtime while Hermann employees can't. The workload is extreme like transporting heavy carts of dirty instruments from OR to decontamination which can cause injuries that will put you out of work. The set up of the department/hospital has the staff working harder not smarter/safer. Just avoid this location for sterile processing experience

    Pros

-Able to create your own schedule via online scheduling
-accommodate school schedule if related to current job position
-provided free certification if applied to job area
-obtained desired time off if asked far enough in advance

    Cons

-Like most nursing hospital jobs, working weekends and holidays is an expectation
-Experienced a change in management that subsequently led to a mass exit of employees. Nurses who had worked at the company for 10+ years left and although that manager was later fired, the damage was already done. From then on, nurses worked short-staffed on a daily basis until I left. Although I am aware it takes time to hire and train new employees, I believe agency nurses should have been utilized, however this avenue was not utilized due to "cost".

    Pros

Mass layoffs not as common as in the for-profit industries. Employees that have been here for a long time seem to be happy.

    Cons

The health care coverage for this place is terrible - it costs almost $400 extra per month to have my wife on my plan ($100 "Spousal Fee" and $80 extra premium, every two weeks).

They recently improved the coverage for having a baby, which is good, but people don't typically have babies every year.

    Advice to Management

Talk to your subordinates before making project commitments for them. Take a serious look at the benefits you offer - when healthcare.gov has better plans that your company...
