I have been working at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Really nice people to work with. No micromanaging. Able to do my job without much hassle from anybody. Night shift gets a good differential (around a $1 but its more for nurses and techs)

    Cons

No cost of living adjustment and a very meager raise once a year. Also they are constantly asking employees to donate to the hospital. HR has also made it clear that for the lower level jobs you will not get a promotion unless you work there for at the very least 3 years no matter how often your manager puts you up for one. They also cap your overtime even though the help is desperately needed

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Offer more opportunities for advancement and encourage new employees to continue doing great by offering more praise and better compensation.

    Pros

MHHS has a lot of different departments and offices that allow you to move around while staying within the organization. Potential for different job opportunities for some employees.

    Cons

There was a lack of focus on professional development. You just needed to come in and do the job you were hired to do but not try and work with Management to grow. Opportunities were given to some, but not equitable for all.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow people to do what they do best every day, whatever that might be

I have been working at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Pay is decent compared to some smaller places.

    Cons

In the laboratory or if you are a nurse, be prepared to work hard. Just about every single Memorial ER location gets swamped. From the lab perspective, they ask you to do too much per person just to see if it's possible for you to do more work. They enjoy operating on a skeleton crew so be prepared. As a nurse, the customer service aspect of your job can be even more demanding than you might be used to. Certain locations have management issues but there it's not system wide. The hiring process is long and tedious. I've also seen older people that get paid more since they've been there awhile pressured to resign, this really put a damper on my enthusiasm for the company. Also, they will have you take surveys while simultaneously obstructing you as to how you should fill it out. If you don't do your self evaluation in time you will not get your full (already small) raise. Raises are from around 1.5 to 3% annually.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean up negative individuals in management. Make your employee satisfaction surveys count for something. Give us real raises, and finally give us bonuses that aren't insulting.

I worked at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

convenient to home, nice prestige to work here over the other large hospital system in Houston; coworkers were very passionate about their job

    Cons

The management, specifically the CHRO (Chief HR officers) in the group. Bunch of evil women who love to backstab each other and get drunk in "staff" meetings. Horrible place to grow your HR career - you might as well be an HR person for a cleaning company. The CEO was aloof and was rarely pleasant to anyone who didn't work on the 27th floor - he still called us "personnel."

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Clean up your senior HR team, they are more detrimental than you think they are. Don't let your staff drink during the day at "O24," it's not impressive to see their mug shots on KHOU.
