They've gotten too big and they have forgotten basic things that are important and why they are in business and that is...People

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get some more the old has been there too long doing things to people that's wrong. They are bullies in the imaging department that wear many faces

    Pros

The organization is forward thinking and seems to stay on the cutting-edge of the ever changing world of healthcare. There are lots of opportunities to grow as a professional.

    Cons

It is a very large organization and there is always competition among other employees as well as other hospital or healthcare systems. Things are always changing, so be flexible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stay engaged with your employees on every level.

I worked at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked night shift which moved at a slower pace than day shift and paid more. I always felt secure at work. Management wasn't there at night but coworkers were helpful. I liked my job. It was easy and rewarding. The only reason I left was to stay at home with my children.

    Cons

I did not find many cons with this job. Sometimes I needed to reach management about an issue and being on night shift it would have to wait. Also there were times when I had to work a lot of weekends and holidays because a fellow coworker refused and I felt like they got preferential treatment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more available for night shift. Don't provide preferential treatment.

    Pros

Reliable, large enough to allow for growth and advancement, compassionate, has a variety of jobs to choose from, will not discriminate.

    Cons

It will take a long time to be hired! The recruiting staff is very busy and the hireing processs will take upwards of 3 months.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Form a panal of experts from variety of departments to address issues in the system.

Easy to change to other areas of nursing if your life changes (like childbirth).

The technology does not work efficiently from department to department and causes double work.

I have been working at Memorial Hermann Healthcare full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent salary and multiple areas to work. Great company for nurses as they work hard to please that department.

    Cons

No advancement opportunity for laboratory personnel, only for nursing personnel. Long hours, no appreciation for hard work, poor merit increases, and poor management in laboratory.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support all employees not just nurses when they seek advanced education and want to change jobs within the organization. Improve recognition processes for all departments.
