I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering

    Pros

Great benefits; driven coworkers that bring the best out of you; and many opportunities to grow.

    Cons

As a very large organization, it is a bit intimidating at first. I came in as an RSA and eventually found my stride in the clinical practice plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was always treated very well for my hard work. I don't have anything negative to say. Please continue to hold job fairs for folks in upstate NY (like me) to find wonderful opportunities at MSKCC!

I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Amazing coworkers, staff, nurses and physicians, learn numerous skills as responsibilities cross the spectrum, support mission and initiatives

    Cons

Long hours; Emails/work sent 24/7; overwhelming workload; lack of mentorship or support from management. Hard work often goes unrecognized

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

provide mentorship, provide an opportunity for staff to provide feedback on managers, institution policies should apply to all staff equally, bureaucracy runs rampant with no checks and balances

Former Employee - Administrative Secretary in New York, NY

I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Professional environment, dedicated and committed employees who go the extra mile, good benefits - tuition reimbursement, focus on team work (strong sense of community), OT pay depending on the department you work in, extra food after meetings (cost savings). Open communication across all work levels.

    Cons

Long hours, long commute (for me), Tons of meetings to keep everyone in the loop.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Because MSK is a long commute for some employees, perhaps you should consider providing reduced parking for employees, provide tools to connect employees who are interested in car pooling.

    Pros

Being a world leader, MSK has an incredible team of individuals. Everyone around you is the best in their field and it creates a fantastic work environment.

    Cons

The only negative is the salary, they really leverage their name and reputation to attract talent. The compensation they offer recently grads is terrible.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you want to continue to attract top talent, you should bring your salary to something that is competitive with other organizations.
