I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering

    Pros

Great benefits; driven coworkers that bring the best out of you; and many opportunities to grow.

    Cons

As a very large organization, it is a bit intimidating at first. I came in as an RSA and eventually found my stride in the clinical practice plan.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was always treated very well for my hard work. I don't have anything negative to say. Please continue to hold job fairs for folks in upstate NY (like me) to find wonderful opportunities at MSKCC!

I have been working at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic exposure to the clinical research environment for young professionals right out of college; experience working closely with world class physicians; opportunities to interact with patients; opportunities for publication.

    Cons

Titles and salaries often reflect a fraction actual job responsibilities (especially for entry level positions in clinical research); promotions often have strict work experience requirements despite obvious qualifications; once on-boarding is completed you are essentially expected to manage yourself; there is little room for vertical movement within a service, most promotions require horizontal and vertical movement (working with a different disease and new responsibilities).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The hospital as a whole is a fantastic organization with great values, though its clinical research programs are considerably mismanaged and in dire need of a comprehensive update. There is substantial waste of human potential in those employees stuck in jobs they are overqualified for, leading to much frustration and forcing many talented individuals out of the institution altogether.

I have been working at Memorial Sloan Kettering

    Pros

Great colleagues. Generous time off and great benefits.

    Cons

They pride themselves for having a very flat structure, but that leaves fewer and fewer opportunities for advancement, especially after getting a promotion.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share information with employees before you do so with the public. It's embarassing when friends and family quote the local news and expect you to know more about new locations. Unfortunately, the typical employee found out from this friend or family member.

I worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Coworkers are all very friendly and bright.

    Cons

Administration was not transparent and didn't provide the kind of leadership one would expect from a #1 rated Cancer Center.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are going to continue to promote from within then it would be helpful to promote a more diverse group of upper management personnel.
