Pros
Job is never boring, get to interact with many people, pay is better than with competing stores, promotions are given when earned, promotion from within keeps workers motivated to reach the next level
Cons
long hours, sometimes management places too much emphasis on sales and not enough on customer satisfaction, they do not hire outside people for management positions regardless of relevant industry experience
Pros
Fairly easy to advance withing the company and work well with your schedule conflicts. Have an internship program which is nice for Business students and have opportunities for advancement after graduating.
Cons
Since its retail, hours can be long and the store is only closed twice a year, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. But you get holiday pay on most of the major holidays that you work.
Pros
Can advance fast if willing to relocate.
Cons
Need to actually care about your employees and there families
Advice to Senior Management
Stop Micromanaging
Pros
The pay and bonuses for management are great
Cons
The amount of hours you work in a week, month and year are outrageous
Advice to Senior Management
Be ready to work alot
Pros
If willing to relocate, one may advance within the company. However, do not expect to be granted the opportunity to give your opinion on where you wish to relocate; your two options - relocate or termination.
Cons
As stated in the Headline, expect your daily life to obey the motto of "Menards is your Life". Upper management members do not understand, nor do they wish to understand, the boundaries of work and personal life. All-in-all, upper management members do not care about their employees and their families.
Advice to Senior Management
Step down from your pedestal every-once-in-awhile, and consider your employees and their families before making decisions that could ultimately destroy their lives and/or family.
Pros
Instant Profit Sharing, Managers bonus
Cons
hours required to work each week, low staffing, high cost health care, they block off half of the year and allow no one to take vacations days during that time
Advice to Senior Management
Give your workers more a social life and allow management to take more time off.
Pros
Menards offers a lot of training which for many people who have only a high school education and little home improvement experience. A lot of systems for managing a department which again helps people who have little management experience. Rapid promotions for those willing to move. Friendships with fellow team members (employees) and guests (customers) help make the work day go better. Pay as best can be determined is above Lowes and Home Depot.
Cons
Inflexible schedule but that's retail. Limited resources to get the job done given the store management to do lists/expectations, tasks assigned by the general office, and just everyday work of stocking and selling. Lack of promotion path for those with college degrees. 80% of guests are fine but the 20% can be a royal pain.
Advice to Senior Management
Promote up within a store and don't require moving to another store. Develop alternate career paths other than being a store manager or moving to Eau Claire. Don't know how it could be done in a retail environment but family friendly scheduling.
Pros
It pays well, compared to other physical jobs in the city, which is saturated by cheap college labor. Good hours.
incentives for safe working
Cons
Be prepared for VERY physical labor if you do not get trained on the fork lifts. Very strict punishments for mistakes.
Advice to Senior Management
there needs to be better equipment for unloading trailers. The conveyor belts were constantly getting jammed. Something needs to happen to increase ability of sortation to keep up with unloading.
Pros
great leaders in management and help out
Cons
some lazy team members work here
Advice to Senior Management
fire people more often
Pros
The yearly IPS checks are great
Cons
Mgmt doesn't seem to care
Advice to Senior Management
