I have been working at Menards part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Alot of great people work in this company and if you work 1000 hours in one year even if your part time you get an ips check

    Cons

Overall its not a good place to work. I've worked in multiple stores and generally the store management is lazy, you get the impression like your disposable, and if your in management you work very long days usually

    Pros

Menards is a great company that has lots of potential to continue expanding rapidly. They have a pretty great benefits for those that are starting out as well as great opportunities for those that would like to continue and grow with them.

    Cons

Some days can be hectic and no fun. Managers have to go through a lot in order to continue on or move up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vindictive managers, rigid HR Coordinators, flagrant disregard for safety

I worked at Menards part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    - It's slightly better than being unemployed.
    - Employees can bond over shared dislike of their job

    Cons

    - Making a habit of leaving on time (a.k.a. not working overtime) will sour your relationship with your managers
    - Safety, both of employees and customers, is not a concern. Receiving team members on forklifts will fly down aisles while barely looking. Aisles are not blocked off when pallets are being overstocked, creating a dangerous situation.
    - Taking the time to use proper safety equipment will count against you during performance reviews. I was reamed by my department manager for having the audacity to grab a dust mask and safety glasses before cleaning out the concrete aisle.
    - Both a test and a performance review are required before receiving a pitiful raise.
    - Employee discount is a joke.
    - Managers almost universally start the day with a bad attitude, which they love taking out on Morning Stockers.
    - The attendance policy is especially hard on early morning employees.

    I worked at Menards part-time

    Pros

The pros to this job are few and far between. Most of my co-workers were awesome and easy to get along with. A majority of the managers were nice and promotions are available. Paid every week.

    Cons

There are numerous cons to working for Menards. I worked in the receiving department which presented a unique set of challenges compared to other departments. For example, there was lots of heavy lifting which had to be done without another team member. The deliveries are not scheduled appropriately, as a result the employee may be denied their allowed breaks and lunches to handle the swarm of trucks that have arrived. The atmosphere in my department was such that an employee who wants to take their allowed breaks may be designated as weak. There are also safety issues, such as the operation of forklifts in close proximity to guests. Co-workers in my department were frequently injuring themselves, despite following safety protocol. I believe that these factors all helped to contribute to poor attitudes and frustration towards the job. Often times these attitudes and frustrations would manifest in poor guest service and apathy. I don't shop at Menards, but I have read several customer reviews and it is clear Menards cares as little for their guests as they do their workers. I do not attribute my situation to a specific person or department within my store, the problem runs deeper than that. The problem is company wide.
I would not recommend this employer to anyone.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I believe most of the issues I had with this company could be resolved if there were more employees to handle the workload and the work environment was safer.

I worked at Menards part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Great pay, started out $1.55 over minimum plus an additional $2.50 per hour on the weekends, and being paid every week was great.
10cent raises every 3 months. It may not seem like a lot, but it adds up fast.
    Great co-workers.

    Cons

Can't get your hours changed (as a college student and part time employee I wanted a few less hours during the semester and that simply did not fly)
Why I feel I got the short end of the stick: (these may not be issues at other stores)
The GM at the store I worked for was extremely rude and demeaning.
Multiple managers for the same department were never on the same page as to what basic procedure and protocol was.
Promotions went to "favorites" instead of being based on experience and ability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you come in to review the store, talk to the non-management staff to see how they think things are going. I know a lot of people had some great ideas that our store managers wouldn't listen to, and it would also help expose the favoritism and unfair promotion policies that may be taking place.
