Pros
Challenging work, very good benefits.
Cons
Like many organizations, managers have a tendency to surround themselves with people that are just like them.
Pros
- Good work-life balance for technical jobs.
Cons
- No real competition in Cairo, so salaries are not competitive.
Pros
Great work life balance
Good perks like vacation & health
Mostly great and supportive co-workers
Cons
Very political environment. Promotions seem to operate mostly on a buddy system rather than any competence displayed.
Senior management seems unaware of what is happening at mid-management level
Advice to Senior Management
Look at their mid-management layer which is very fat and think about ways to make it lean and efficient.
Reduce politics
Pros
good work life balance
not too much pressure
Cons
no promotion opportunity
nothing new, it is same pace and same work.
average working culture.
inaccurate performance review
your boss is your god. no escape.
Very minimal HR role
Advice to Senior Management
This is low energy company. Even if one wants to do some thing new, he is not encouraged ( even though caliber ( biggest mentor product) came from such effort), No one puts pressure on you but at the same time no one ask question to under performer as well. If i call bonus as bogus, it is not inappropriate.
This is not one company but group of difference divisions with different work culture and practices under one big umbrella.
Pros
Nice culture. People are friendly and helpful.
Cons
Cafeteria food is not so good.
Pros
The benefits are great and there is a family atmosphere amongst peers which helps with communication and the learning process. The workers are also very intelligent and friendly.
Cons
The upper management is disconnected at manly levels. Therefore, there is a lack of direction. If this were resolved Mentor Graphics would be an excellent technology firm to work for, if it wasn't already.
Pros
It's great if you are responsible for Calibre.
Cons
Don't expect too much about the salary
Advice to Senior Management
Send them to have training courses
Pros
Amazing campus, family atmosphere, flexible work time, work/life balance. There is possibility for career advancement if you work hard for it and pay attention to your own career. Being professionally aggressive doesn't necessarily pay off here but you have to be ready to capitalize on available opportunities when they come up (which isn't often because people stay in their jobs for a very long time). Management in my organization is very accessible and I feel pretty open to employee idea contribution. As a parent, Mentor Graphics has been a really great place to work.
Cons
There are a large number of people settled in to their positions who don't seem to be interested in professional movement or innovation - sometimes that attitude weighs on those of us who want to excel. It seems impossible to fire anyone at Mentor. Please make sure you get paid what you are worth when you are hired, while it is possible to get decent raises and promotions once you are hired on it isn't easy (I've heard some coworkers complain they haven't had increases in years!).
Advice to Senior Management
If you can, consider shaking the foundations a little bit and cutting loose some dead weight. There isn't anything wrong with a little professional competition, please try to bring in some new achievers!
Pros
If you like to work independent and make most of your activity decision by your own Mentor is the place to work. You can drive business opportunities by your own and if you successful no one will stop you. Then you also get a lot of support from the mangement.
Cons
Nearly no carreer opportunity and the salary increases in the last years are near to zero. incentives are reserved for a few people which nearly never change! More motivation actions have to be offered.
Advice to Senior Management
Do more to motivate the employees and offer more career opportunities!!!
Pros
EDA is small world and mentor has good products there.
It is a mid sized company
Treats its employees well
Cons
EDA industry is growing as much, so it is difficult for you to grow in a career within EDA. Exit options are quite limited from the EDA industry.
Advice to Senior Management
Try and think big in terms of what you may achieve. Venture out of conventional EDA to something more innovative
