Consider yourself lucky if you work here

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Wilsonville, OR

ProsPeople are friendly and cooperative. A great campus with on-site cafeteria, gym, basketball court, library, and child care facility. Private offices for everyone, generous vacation time, and good benefits.

ConsLayoffs happen frequently and are usually handled poorly - everyone finds out through the grapevine but management pretends nothing happened.

Lots of challenges, a lot of great people but poor HR so I can not recommend

    Human Resources (Former Employee)
    Wilsonville, OR

    Prosgood work life balance
    encourages training
    internship program
    beautiful facilities
individual offices - little or no cubicles
    fast paced enviornment
    diverse work enviornment
    good compensation

Conslack of employee advocacy through out HR team. All HR issues are left to managers and HR only called in for termination and documentation of disciplinary actions.
constant changing of strategy within HR team

Advice to Senior ManagementYour employees do not feel that there is an internal resource to assist them when situations arise. HR should not simply protect the company but successful HR teams can also foster a secure and open door policy through out their divisions.

It's wonderful place with amazing office view

    Field Intern (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsMentor has many wonderful leaders leading the company.
The Austin office has the best office view I ever knows.
Company encourage you to work from home if you would like to.

Consnot many people in the office to talk with, because most of the engineering are application engineer.
freezing in the office during the summer.

Advice to Senior ManagementI was lucky to have a wonderful manager for my internship.
However, I can feel the Technology Marketing Engineer are leading the Calibre product on the right track.

    Be Ware!! Mismanaged company

    Technical Marketing Engineer (Current Employee)
    Fremont, CA

Pros- Good work-life balance. Used to have 24 days of FTO which are now cut down to a maximum of 10 but still accrues at a rate of 24 days per year.

    Cons- Very political environment.
    - Rare opportunities for career growth.
    - Mismanaged company with clueless middle managers (most of those with a Director title).
    - Same work every day for 5+ years is really boring!
    - HR has almost no role in the company. You only see them during an interview and an exit interview and pretty much nothing in between!

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is not one company but a collection of divisions with different work culture and practices under one big umbrella. I don't see any corporate culture that is common across divisions.

    A retirement company

    Technical Marketing Engineer (Current Employee)
    San Jose, CA

    Prosgood work life balance
    not too much pressure

    Consno promotion opportunity
nothing new, it is same pace and same work.
    average working culture.
    inaccurate performance review
your boss is your god. no escape.
    Very minimal HR role

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is low energy company. Even if one wants to do some thing new, he is not encouraged ( even though caliber ( biggest mentor product) came from such effort), No one puts pressure on you but at the same time no one ask question to under performer as well. If i call bonus as bogus, it is not inappropriate.

This is not one company but group of difference divisions with different work culture and practices under one big umbrella.

    Good Place to Work

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Mobile, AL

ProsThe benefits are great and there is a family atmosphere amongst peers which helps with communication and the learning process. The workers are also very intelligent and friendly.

ConsThe upper management is disconnected at manly levels. Therefore, there is a lack of direction. If this were resolved Mentor Graphics would be an excellent technology firm to work for, if it wasn't already.

Hard, high visibility work pays off if you make sure it does.

    Systems Administrator (Current Employee)
    Wilsonville, OR

ProsAmazing campus, family atmosphere, flexible work time, work/life balance. There is possibility for career advancement if you work hard for it and pay attention to your own career. Being professionally aggressive doesn't necessarily pay off here but you have to be ready to capitalize on available opportunities when they come up (which isn't often because people stay in their jobs for a very long time). Management in my organization is very accessible and I feel pretty open to employee idea contribution. As a parent, Mentor Graphics has been a really great place to work.

ConsThere are a large number of people settled in to their positions who don't seem to be interested in professional movement or innovation - sometimes that attitude weighs on those of us who want to excel. It seems impossible to fire anyone at Mentor. Please make sure you get paid what you are worth when you are hired, while it is possible to get decent raises and promotions once you are hired on it isn't easy (I've heard some coworkers complain they haven't had increases in years!).

Advice to Senior ManagementIf you can, consider shaking the foundations a little bit and cutting loose some dead weight. There isn't anything wrong with a little professional competition, please try to bring in some new achievers!

    Great learning experience.

    Software Development Engineer (Current Employee)
    Wilsonville, OR

ProsLearn a lot from the job since they hire very smart employees. Every employee gets his own room with pretty powerful workstation. 24 vacation days per year is fabulous. Work life balance is excellent.

ConsThere is a lot of bad legacy code in the project i worked in which crippled development of new features.

Advice to Senior ManagementCommunicate important information to employees more proactively.
Need better co-operation between different groups.
