I worked at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice campus in a nice location, full-room offices for everyone, gym, cafeteria, cheap rent around the campus, basketball and volleyball fields and more.

    Cons

Unless you land in an unusually exciting job in a successful team, work is typically boring. There is limited opportunity for growth and no defined career path.

    Advice to Management

Define a career path for employees and explore growth opportunities for the company that challenge the skills of your employees.

I worked at Mentor Graphics (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and Salary, Leader in EDA Technology, Nice campus at the headquarters. Daycare on site. Friendly co workers and culture.

    Cons

Mid Management and leadership never changes. Replacing older experienced workers with less expensive inexperienced younger people. Lack of on boarding for new employees. Lack of retraining for existing employees.

    Advice to Management

Executive: Try to be sensitive to the people that will remain after you go when hiring new management. Younger does not mean better. They need mentoring and training. Keep in mind that Mentor makes and sells software that is highly technical to highly technical people who need high touch support for the specialized products you sell them so they can design all the fantastic product we all enjoy. Probably not a great candidate for SaaS. Be a leader and not a follower.

    Pros

    1. Great work, good work/life balance, great technical chaps,, smart people. Latest cutting edge technologies are used 2. Good team activities and training 3. Good compensation wrt industry

    Cons

    1. No career growth and no path is defined. 2. Management expects you to just produce and not at all interested in your growth. 3. Lot of favoritism. Some managers show small things very big for their favorites and project others in a negative manner even if their work is considerable 4. You will be in the same position for years and you need to fight literally 5. Top managers fight for their positions and impress their directors/GM

    Advice to Management

1, Define career paths. Define objectives that needs be met 2 . If the objectives are met, promote people. 3. Treat everyone fairly.and be realistic 4. Attract good talent

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good offices and people policies.

    Cons

Management team just compete with each other and not the industry. Each business unit is run in competition with each other without coordination or learning from others experience. Marketing team have no clue how to manage a brand or branding.

    Advice to Management

Decide if you want to just sell software tools or solutions. Then build a realistic view of where Mentor sits in the world.
