I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Friendly work environment, a lot of opportunity to learn new skills, perks: gym and rec center, healthy subsidized lunches, a lot of green areas. A sense of community within Mentor Graphics is apparent.

    Cons

Needs more opportunity to incorporate new grads into their workforce. Seems like the majority of people who work there are older, unlike some other tech companies.

    Pros

Verty family oriented, teamwork is part of the culture, very laid back and fun. Non stressful in a productive environment. They keep their employees happy. That's why people don't leave. It's very hard to find these days.

    Cons

Really stinks to look up from my desk out onto the green, tree filled beautifl campus. Could I get a cubicle please. :)

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fairly good benefits and salary and working conditions.

    Cons

The whole industry is going nowhere. Upper management more interested in protecting themselves than making the hard choices they're paid for. They talk a good game, but the results of the business tell a different story. No opportunities to advance and little opportunity to even move around in the company to keep things fresh.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wally and Greg know that they should merge the company with Cadence or Synopsys, they just don't want to lose their jobs so they don't. Wally's been CEO for 20 years with nothing really to show for it.

    Pros

    Good benefits, family friendly company

    Cons

Political, not a market leader in most product areas

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out where Mentor can be excellent, and go for it rather than being #3 in multiple markets

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Nice environment to work in. People are generally very friendly
Strong skill set across multiple disciplines
    Competitive salaries
    Technology leaders in multiple areas

    Cons

It is a very flat organization and therefore advancement is rather difficult.
Plays in a industry with limited growth and so the companies growth although somewhat better than the industry as a whole is still rather limited.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable job, great benefits. Good working environment and people in the team. Great sale force

    Cons

Average to worse R&D.. Stagnate salary, small raise no room to grow, no new opportunities. Somewhat lazy working environment, Technology moving slowly and not listening to customer demand and hang on to old style of code writing. Unwilling to change and cooperate to other product lines within the same company to keep on the competitive edge.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be a bit more aggressive on R&D in Wilsonville who thinks they are god and can do anything such as ignoring customers not fixing bugs and not working on new product.

I have been working at Mentor Graphics full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mentor provides a generous work environment, great pay and benefits. The job accommodates a healthy life outside work. Our group volunteers time to food banks and other good causes - a nice gesture.

    Cons

Bloated organization, complacent business culture, management is full of bluster. Many employees here are "stayers" whose goal is navigating the politics necessary to reach retirement. Many people work unproductive jobs and take advantage of a generous corporate culture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You're lucky Carl Icahn has grown passive in his old age.
