Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsWork and life balance. Great colleagues. Family atmosphere

ConsMoved to Fremont. Shoddy upper management. Doing better now but still believe in pet projects.

    Great Company

Director (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsGood management and product mix. Established player in EDA field. Stable company and decent culture. Strong products and loyal customers. Good sales force and sales methodology.

ConsEDA is a mature industry. Not really fast growing compared to other areas, like internet cloud. Some past tensions and culture clashes between acquired companies and products vs. original Mentorites. But most have been assimilated.

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep up the good work

Technical Marketing, product spec, solving customer demand.

Technical Marketing Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsStable job, great benefits. Good working environment and people in the team. Great sale force

ConsAverage to worse R&D.. Stagnate salary, small raise no room to grow, no new opportunities. Somewhat lazy working environment, Technology moving slowly and not listening to customer demand and hang on to old style of code writing. Unwilling to change and cooperate to other product lines within the same company to keep on the competitive edge.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe a bit more aggressive on R&D in Wilsonville who thinks they are god and can do anything such as ignoring customers not fixing bugs and not working on new product.

good place that could be more

Engineer (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsMostly a solid company with good products, good benefits, support for the community.

ConsSome arrogance toward the customer, and some arrogance toward other employees from the lead developers in successful groups.
Very little coordination of products between divisions. Very little core skills in marketing.
The "country club" rumors are somewhat true, in that some employees are allowed to "cruise", doing very little.
A poor manager can screw over any employee.

Advice to Senior ManagementCoordinate the activities to get a better overall result.
Promote an environment of respect for all employees.
Empower HR to teach managers how to lead, motivate, review, and develop their employees.

    good place to work

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) San Jose, CA

    Prosnot micro-managed
    decent pay and benefits
sr. management genuinely has employees interests in mind
nice campus in Wilsonville; nice facility in San Jose

Conscan be political (isn't that true everywhere?)
company is not on a strong growth path. Employee growth suffers as a result. Stagnant.

Advice to Senior Managementtake risks, move into new markets, grow the company. How can you fit into the "new economy"?
consider better stock options and incentive plans for non-sales employees

    A retirement company

Technical Marketing Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

    Prosgood work life balance
    not too much pressure

    Consno promotion opportunity
nothing new, it is same pace and same work.
    average working culture.
    inaccurate performance review
your boss is your god. no escape.
    Very minimal HR role

Advice to Senior ManagementThis is low energy company. Even if one wants to do some thing new, he is not encouraged ( even though caliber ( biggest mentor product) came from such effort), No one puts pressure on you but at the same time no one ask question to under performer as well. If i call bonus as bogus, it is not inappropriate.

This is not one company but group of difference divisions with different work culture and practices under one big umbrella.

    Great place to work

Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) San Jose, CA

ProsI've been working for Mentor Graphics for many years now. Smart coworkers, great environment, great opportunities for career advancement, great vacation - 24 working days! Overall, a great place to be.

ConsCompensation package is not on par with other companies in the same industry. Stock options are deplorable, bonus is minimal, base salary lags behind other companies', incompentence is tolerated more than I'd like it to be.

Advice to Senior ManagementUpper management is driving the company in the right direction

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
