Employer was OK but could have done a better job

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsPros would be getting to drive new Mercedes Benz for a short distance. Assistant Service Manager was more helpful than the Service Manager.

ConsLack of communication between departments, not enough staff so I need to cover other departments or do ad hoc tasks. No room for advancement or growth. Mediocre pay increase.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire sufficient staff to run a business otherwise you will put a burden on existing staff.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

The worst company I've ever worked for!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

Prosbenefits, car deals for employees, popular brand

    Conslack of leadership
    low salary
    long hours
no training/ clear procedures for employees
    no education support
    unqualified managers
    slow and old software
    communication issues between departments
    Bottom line: "Waste of TIME"

Advice to Senior Managementrestructuring, hiring qualified and educated people instead of unfair promotions, investing in employees and technology!

    Some Pros, mostly cons

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

ProsThe brand looks great on a resume, discount on car leases/purchases

ConsManagement incompetance (lots of micromanagement!), no room for advancement, mostly a stuffy, rigid culture with the exception of a handful of departments, unfair promotion practices. I know that there were many unhappy staff that left soon after I did.

Advice to Senior ManagementImplement transparent recruitment/promotion practices. Ensure management/sr.staff have the knowledge to motivate staff.

At least the cars are great!

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

    ProsBenefits and cars are great!

ConsCompany has seem to stop caring about their employees. Now interested in paying as little as possible and increasing employee work load. Management has a poor sense of what's going on... no one takes responsibility for anything they basically play the blame game. So many of my past co-workers currently employed with them are unhappy but afraid to leave due to a poor job market.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou better smarten up! It was a great company many years ago and its rapidly going downhill... all the way from head office to the dealership level.

Dont expect to move past the position you got hired for

    (Former Employee)

ProsDecent atmosphere, nice people, VEP car program.

ConsAll the Managers have death grips on their jobs, so movement is non existent in the normal ranks and most employee's opt for the front door instead. This place had more turnover than ANY job I'd ever had. Personally overheard a female Manager say they would just renew a co-op kids contract if he was a good employee (rather than bringing on full time, like a good Company would). In between the educated employee's throughout head office there are some uneducated "lucky" folks that came up the ranks at dealerships. If you have problems with anyone that works there, it'll be those slime balls.
As for the VEP car program, yes, you can lease a C-class through the company for $450/month...but you can also go BUY just about anything for that money too, and you wont have to give it back when you quit in 1 year.

Advice to Senior ManagementMercedes Benz is a company run by engineers and solid product. When that product starts to lose its appeal because of the coming CAFE regulations you are going to be put to the test.

Intern (Current Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros- Opportunities to learn
    - Great people/friendly colleagues
    - Brand power, looks great on CV

Cons- Some incompetency and lack of leadership at the management level
    - Micromanagement not uncommon
    - Major lack of collaboration and interdepartmental communication
    - Among the lowest pay scales in the industry
    - High turnover
    - Limited growth opportunities

Some nice people to work with, but plagued with high-turnover in certain departments.

    (Former Employee) Toronto, ON (Canada)

    Pros- Employee vehicle program
    - Flex hours
    - Mostly nice & hardworking people
    - Lots of natural light and large accommodating desks

Cons- Low pay scale & high workload
    - More competition between teams rather than productive collaboration
    - Poor mentorship/leadership in some departments

Advice to Senior ManagementWeed out the bad management. Put a good team building program in place. Great things can be done with this brand but is being held back due to so many unfortunate politics.

Lots of freedom once becomes senior.

    ConsLowest pay structure in the industry;
