Pros
Good Salary and alot of opportunities such as paid vacations house loans and etc. They even offer you free cars.

Late salary payment and sometimes loaded amount of work.

Just be focused and be chilled.Don't go nuts even though there is alot of stress you undergo.

Get to be around cool cars. Overall some of the people you get to be around are interesting and easy-going. I guess you could say it's a good resume-filler? (Although not worth it, read below)
Cons
First off, working under German management is a pain in the ass. The work itself in Ann Arbor is mundane - it's vehicle emissions testing. As an intern, you get to be in the "support" role for a certain EPA program (or several), AKA you are doing the dirty work, like calling clients, taking cars out for car washes, or actually doing some real "dirty" work: for example, they'll make you do maintenance around the facility, like cleaning the facility, or moving random stuff around if it needs to be moved. Management will tell you that it's done in order to foster employee cohesion, but I will say: nobody is slaving to get their engineering degree to do this kind of garbage. Safe to say, Mercedes does not want to hire a dedicated maintenance staff to keep their buildings in good shape, yeah just let the interns do it.
The other problem is you don't really learn any valuable skills while working there, besides learning how to work with Excel or learning how to do Word doc mail merges. As you may expect, you'll use those same mail merges to print out a couple of hundred documents at a time which you will then put into envelopes to send to customers. You know, somebody's gotta do it, and you certainly will!
There are many other things that I will not mention which would fall under the category of b****/dirty work, but I will finish by saying that there are no great career advancement opportunities within Mercedes-Benz USA simply because all the interesting, trustworthy jobs are back in Germany. We have plenty of engineering talent here in the States, if an employer is not interested in utilizing and investing in your talent, ditch them. So, don't mess around with your career, and go find yourself a real internship! Best of luck in your search.
Advice to Senior Management
You don't need to hire engineers to do administrative testing work. Use those engineers elsewhere where their skills will be utilized. Allow for opportunity to move up within the organization or explore different divisions (e.g. a rotational development program).

The employees at mercedes-benz were friendly to work with. Everyone in the company got along. The work required was not too hard.
Cons
There was no real chance to move up in the company, what I did was what I would be doing forever.

Keep up the good work, try to employ someone a little younger to position since many of the workers are older.

Organization promotes from within for production related positions, however, many growth opportunities are reserved for expats.

Nepotism runs high in organization!!!
Lots of movement in upper management among other OEMs in the area, thereby creating a lapse in management continuity

Don't forget about your non production staff, The production floor may be the heart of the operation but the non production staff are the arteries.
Pros
There are many good benefits (401k matching, pension, excellent health plan). Working environment is good, open door policy is practiced.
Cons
The official position is no "flex time". Very rigid for administration workers; management tries to treat them the same as assembly line workers. Unless you're willing to work many more hours at relatively the same pay, don't even consider management.

Incorporate flex time with the approval of supervisor.
Pros
It is competitive within the geographical area as far as pay/salary is concerned. It is a clean and reasonably comfortable environment to work in. It also has some perks that come with the job, such as employee pricing on vehicles, tires, parts and other things.
Cons
Management seems to keep the handbook in a 3 ring binder. Rules and guidelines change without notice or with very short notice. Employees have no say in anything, they just sit back and take what the management throws at them. Benefits are decreasing on a regular basis (eg. Insurance premiums, copays, deductibles etc...). Also, they seem to work job promotions on a number basis instead of job performance, qualifications, seniority and such.
Advice to Senior Management
Before a union is organized, maybe you should let the employees have some say in company matters.
