I have been working at Mercent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Collaborative atmosphere.
    Great engineering team.
    Good work/life balance.
The company provides a lot of little added benefits/perks like Cheer Fridays, annual summer picnic, monthly/quarterly company offsite team builders, free snacks, etc.

The technology is decent, but not cutting edge. It's comparable to the key competitors with some added benefits. Weekly release cycles make the company very nimble and can keep up with the industry changes and client demand. It's the hardworking people that make the difference.

Very capable management and executive team. CEO is smart, transparent, charismatic, and always forward thinking.

Great Sales and Services teams keep the company growing.

    Cons

We're a lean company. Always a challenge to find ways to do more with less. Typical though for a smaller company with a lot of growth potential.

    No 401K matching.
Benefits could be better, but their not bad.

Would like to see more opportunities for promotions, compensation increases, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on, and continue to, reward the people who care and are overachievers.

I have been working at Mercent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Mercent provides an opportunity to do interesting work under a good management team and with a great customer base -- without having to work 50+ hour weeks. All employees are allowed work from home days, and every employee has good health, dental, and vision insurance. Long term employees have a very generous vacation accrual plan, and after 5 years of employment are also eligible to submit for a sabbatical. Mercent's offices are on Lake Union, so its a great location.

    Cons

There is a 401k program, but the company providing matching contributions would be even better. The company could invest more in marketing to compete better.

I worked at Mercent full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I really enjoyed several of my coworkers.

    Cons

Leadership's focus on the "bells & whistles" to show to possible investors, to the detriment of their core product.
It became impossible to do my job at all, let alone doing it well.

Working there was very stressful, and frankly embarrassing when you had to tell your client you couldn't do something that seemed pretty simple.

Morale was about as low as I'd ever seen anywhere, even worse on some teams depending on their responsibilities and whether the core product allowed them to fulfill them.

Ridiculous ADD from top. Lots of internel exec backbiting. No defensible technology. No focus

    I worked at Mercent

    Pros

Good training ground to get hired at Amazon. Hmmmmm. other than that, no pros. The CEO inept but charismatic. It's a zombie company. Not a start up, no way to exit. Greed and arrogance drive decisions. No technology worth a spit. Hard working worker bees.

    Cons

Immature exec staff focused on self-serving politics. Lack of exec agreement on strategy. CEO can't help but dive into details again and again, his comfort zone. Models very inappropriate culture. Ambivalence to the cost in human capital. Just throw more bodies at solutions until they all end up going to Amazon or elsewhere.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Really advice to investors: Clean house! All of the exec staff. Unless you want to continue to fund a lifestyle company. Find a real exec to suit this up. You've lost a ton of talent already due to the culture and CEO that creates it.

I worked at Mercent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

It has the benefit of being a start-up feel where people get to the their job without endless approvals.

    Cons

Being a small company, you never know if the holiday season will be a good season or bad. If it's bad, you might get laid off.

I have been working at Mercent full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

-Chance to work with some smart and talented individuals
-Close proximity to Amazon, Google and Top CSE partners
    - One of the top tools in the space
-Start-up style atmosphere - Young and Fun (mostly)
    -Fun company Events

    Cons

-CEO is too hands on for the size of the company. Eric (CEO) acts more like a product manager than a company leader
    - The tool is touted as the 'best' but it is really only better than a poor alternative. There is a lot of potential, but due to a 'quantity over quality' attitude driven by the CEO it will never change.
-Many 'directors' have inflated titles. Politics plays a large role in advancement in the company
-Supposed to be a 'start-up' but does not act like one
    -No Corporate bonus
    -No 401K matching
-Pay is at the low end of average for the industry
-HUGE disparity between all teams in the company -- The performance (marketing) team and development/product teams don't even talk

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a step back and let those you put in power do their job. The CEO does not need to be invoved in every aspect of the company. He is hurting the organization more than helping.

Look at who you have put into director roles, and really think about if they deserve to be where they are.

Promote due to qualifications, not tenure.

Trust your employees and let them help grow they company. There are many hungry young minds that want to help, but are forced to sit in their cubicles and not speak up due to the culture.

BUILD A CULTURE, THERE IS NONE!!!

Great group of people, #1 or #2 in competitive space, perhaps a bit too 'next big thing' focused.

I have been working at Mercent full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Management is transparent, focused on people and fair.
Offices are large and open, though somewhat in no-man's-land between Fremont and SLU.
Great Friday lunches, catered, and Friday's at 4 'Cheer.'
BEST tool in the marketplace for Amazon feed management/repricing
BEST tool in the marketplace for Google Shopping.
Closely partnered with Google, Amazon and other top channel partners & client brands.
Engineering team is talented and driven, creating world-class software solutions for online retail.
Eric Best is a very exciting and driven CEO, as well as transparent and hard-working.

    Cons

Prod/Dev cycle seems to operate in a bubble - without formal, working process for listening to users/clients.
HR is a bit overtasked, so it can take a bit of managing-up to get issues resolved.
it's been said here, but it's bears repeating: need strategic investment and focus on updating SAAS UI, and building-out all features needed to make users as efficient as they should be.
Integration, while powerful, needs more automated solutions and flexibility for ingesting client data.
Location is ambiguously between SLU and Fremont, yet it suffices.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shore up the product for core business
Focus on finding a 'Freemium' offering and more automated integration

    Recommends
    Positive Outlook
