I have been working at Mercent full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work life balance, no expectations/pressure to work more than the standard 40 hrs/week. Take vacation time whenever since management realizes that there is never a good time. Thorough interview process that focuses on getting the best possible engineers. Ability to work from home one day a week.

Great agile processes with weekly release cycle. Quick to upgrade to latest versions of platforms/tools.

    Cons

    - Work doesn't seem exciting at first but grows on you.
    - Have to take turns doing some lite monitoring once every 2-3 months.
    - Tend to be satisfied with the bare minimum to get a feature out the door (not engineering management's fault)

I have been working at Mercent full-time

    Pros

After a few years looking for the next growth story, leadership seems focused on getting the fundamentals right: integration quality, data quality, campaign control, putting biggest channels first. Company provides solid benefits, regular team events, and invests heavily (half of full time employees) in software development. Good office location near Lake Union.

    Cons

Retail customers are focused on today's performance, not yesterday's success. Clients are demanding relative to what they pay which means fewer resources and more work for employees. Company growth and opportunity seems dependent on customer success.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on investment and growth in the core business - ecommerce channel and campaign performance. Invest more in employee training and retention.

I have been working at Mercent

    Pros

The people are great - very good to work with; hard working, but with balance. great culture, strategic positioning in retail seems really solid since biggest partners are Google and Amazon; promotes internally well. management tries to be open and transparent, even when making hard decisions.

    Cons

It's still a relatively small company but it punches above its weight. Some more investment to compete against bigger rivals would be very useful. Couple of demanding clients but nothing out of the norm.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on the core and grow from there.

I have been working at Mercent full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great work life balance. Very employee friendly.

    Cons

Company is constantly in start up mode, even after 10 years in business.
The company has mass layoffs every fall.
CEO is not in touch with his business. One minute, they are hiring like crazy, and the next week they announce mass layoffs. Experienced people are shown the door, while the people they just hired last week who know nothing about the industry and are being trained from scratch, keep their jobs. There is no in between. At other places I have worked there is usually a transition of not filling job openings(Hiring Freeze)and then laying off. But because the CEO is clueless, sound business decision making is thrown out the window. They'll have one bad month and he'll make a new jerk reaction to layoff 10% of the work force.

Do not work here if you want job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Eric Best, get a clue on how to run a business. Keep a pulse on your business levels and what is going on internally from a revenue perspective, so you don't get caught with your pants down and make knee-jerk, non sense business decisions. There is a reason this company has never reached it full potential. The investors funding the company have the patience of saints. This company will never reach it full potential without a change at the top.

    Pros

Opportunities to learn and grow. Good work/life balance.

    Cons

Absolutely no incentive to excel. Values are misplaced. Time/Money spent distracting employees from realizing what's actually happening.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Note to Investors: Clean house of upper management and save the real assets: the employees doing the work.

I have been working at Mercent full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Collaborative atmosphere.
    Great engineering team.
    Good work/life balance.
The company provides a lot of little added benefits/perks like Cheer Fridays, annual summer picnic, monthly/quarterly company offsite team builders, free snacks, etc.

The technology is decent, but not cutting edge. It's comparable to the key competitors with some added benefits. Weekly release cycles make the company very nimble and can keep up with the industry changes and client demand. It's the hardworking people that make the difference.

Very capable management and executive team. CEO is smart, transparent, charismatic, and always forward thinking.

Great Sales and Services teams keep the company growing.

    Cons

We're a lean company. Always a challenge to find ways to do more with less. Typical though for a smaller company with a lot of growth potential.

    No 401K matching.
Benefits could be better, but their not bad.

Would like to see more opportunities for promotions, compensation increases, etc.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on, and continue to, reward the people who care and are overachievers.

I have been working at Mercent full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Mercent provides an opportunity to do interesting work under a good management team and with a great customer base -- without having to work 50+ hour weeks. All employees are allowed work from home days, and every employee has good health, dental, and vision insurance. Long term employees have a very generous vacation accrual plan, and after 5 years of employment are also eligible to submit for a sabbatical. Mercent's offices are on Lake Union, so its a great location.

    Cons

There is a 401k program, but the company providing matching contributions would be even better. The company could invest more in marketing to compete better.

I worked at Mercent full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I really enjoyed several of my coworkers.

    Cons

Leadership's focus on the "bells & whistles" to show to possible investors, to the detriment of their core product.
It became impossible to do my job at all, let alone doing it well.

Working there was very stressful, and frankly embarrassing when you had to tell your client you couldn't do something that seemed pretty simple.

Morale was about as low as I'd ever seen anywhere, even worse on some teams depending on their responsibilities and whether the core product allowed them to fulfill them.
