Ridiculous ADD from top. Lots of internel exec backbiting. No defensible technology. No focus

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsGood training ground to get hired at Amazon. Hmmmmm. other than that, no pros. The CEO inept but charismatic. It's a zombie company. Not a start up, no way to exit. Greed and arrogance drive decisions. No technology worth a spit. Hard working worker bees.

ConsImmature exec staff focused on self-serving politics. Lack of exec agreement on strategy. CEO can't help but dive into details again and again, his comfort zone. Models very inappropriate culture. Ambivalence to the cost in human capital. Just throw more bodies at solutions until they all end up going to Amazon or elsewhere.

Advice to Senior ManagementReally advice to investors: Clean house! All of the exec staff. Unless you want to continue to fund a lifestyle company. Find a real exec to suit this up. You've lost a ton of talent already due to the culture and CEO that creates it.

It's been a start-up for the last seven years

    Worker Bee (Former Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsIt has the benefit of being a start-up feel where people get to the their job without endless approvals.

ConsBeing a small company, you never know if the holiday season will be a good season or bad. If it's bad, you might get laid off.

Great group of people, #1 or #2 in competitive space, perhaps a bit too 'next big thing' focused.

    Business Operations (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

ProsManagement is transparent, focused on people and fair.
Offices are large and open, though somewhat in no-man's-land between Fremont and SLU.
Great Friday lunches, catered, and Friday's at 4 'Cheer.'
BEST tool in the marketplace for Amazon feed management/repricing
BEST tool in the marketplace for Google Shopping.
Closely partnered with Google, Amazon and other top channel partners & client brands.
Engineering team is talented and driven, creating world-class software solutions for online retail.
Eric Best is a very exciting and driven CEO, as well as transparent and hard-working.

ConsProd/Dev cycle seems to operate in a bubble - without formal, working process for listening to users/clients.
HR is a bit overtasked, so it can take a bit of managing-up to get issues resolved.
it's been said here, but it's bears repeating: need strategic investment and focus on updating SAAS UI, and building-out all features needed to make users as efficient as they should be.
Integration, while powerful, needs more automated solutions and flexibility for ingesting client data.
Location is ambiguously between SLU and Fremont, yet it suffices.

Advice to Senior ManagementShore up the product for core business
Focus on finding a 'Freemium' offering and more automated integration

Good career starter, but not more than 'notch in the belt'

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

Pros-Chance to work with some smart and talented individuals
-Close proximity to Amazon, Google and Top CSE partners
    - One of the top tools in the space
-Start-up style atmosphere - Young and Fun (mostly)
    -Fun company Events

Cons-CEO is too hands on for the size of the company. Eric (CEO) acts more like a product manager than a company leader
    - The tool is touted as the 'best' but it is really only better than a poor alternative. There is a lot of potential, but due to a 'quantity over quality' attitude driven by the CEO it will never change.
-Many 'directors' have inflated titles. Politics plays a large role in advancement in the company
-Supposed to be a 'start-up' but does not act like one
    -No Corporate bonus
    -No 401K matching
-Pay is at the low end of average for the industry
-HUGE disparity between all teams in the company -- The performance (marketing) team and development/product teams don't even talk

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a step back and let those you put in power do their job. The CEO does not need to be invoved in every aspect of the company. He is hurting the organization more than helping.

Look at who you have put into director roles, and really think about if they deserve to be where they are.

Promote due to qualifications, not tenure.

Trust your employees and let them help grow they company. There are many hungry young minds that want to help, but are forced to sit in their cubicles and not speak up due to the culture.

BUILD A CULTURE, THERE IS NONE!!!

    * Awesome work/life balance
    * Friendly and smart programmers that know what they are doing
    * Sharp QA team hunting for bugs
    * Careful when hiring to make sure they get the right fit

Cons* Take turns doing very minimal monitoring of system once every few months (can be a weekend)

    From the technical side...

    Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

    ProsHighly knowledgeable team
Strong quality control and testing team
Lots of opportunity to stay current on technologies that interest you
You can chose to specialize on UI, mid-tier, back-end, or else be more generalized
    Active participation in design
    Good personal/team responsibilities and recognition

Work/life balance is best of the places I've worked
    Minimal Crunch time
Flexible schedule / work from home 1-day week

    Neutral:
Benefits are adequate but not great
     - Pay is average for the area
     - No 401(k) match and minimal fund choices
     - Individual medical is decent, but limited family coverage

ConsSatisfaction in a bare minimum of functionality over a high quality set of features
Priority is adding new functionality while spending minimal time improving existing pages/features.
Not enough use is made of internal users
Large process separation between engineering and other non-technical teams

Advice to Senior ManagementIterative cycles only work if you go back and actually iterate. There are a lot of existing pages/functionality that stall after the initial release. Give a higher priority to support and existing issues over adding new functionality (quality over quantity). Take advantage of the in-house users to guinea-pig new features before release.

Good Career Starter, But Not A Place To Grow

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

Pros- There are some very smart and talented individuals who want to help grow the company
     - Great work/life balance
     - Direct interaction with senior management (Who Actually Listen To Feedback)
     - Chance to work alongside some of the biggest names in the industry (Amazon, Google, eBay, etc.)
     - Fun start-up type atmosphere

Cons- Mediocre pay for the region
     - Massive separation between the business and technology teams, which creates a constant need for meetings and reviews
     - Tools are complex and confusing
     - Processes are broken, on all sides of the house
     - Senior management steps in too often which curbs growth and innovation
     - Mediocre benefits
     - Bonuses (Annual) are tied to company performance goals which are lofty and common to miss

Advice to Senior Management- Trust your employees and allow them to create and innovate. Processes that have been in place for numerous years are not always correct.

     - Review the hiring process. There are many individuals who are hired due to sheer need for headcount, rather than due to their ability and what they can bring to the team.

     - Bridge the gap between the technical and non-technical teams. If the separation continues to grow there will be major issues.

Beware of the elusive Annual Bonus.

    (Current Employee)
    Seattle, WA

Pros~ Employees are friendly and easy going.
~ Free snacks (while the monthly supply lasts).
~ Occasional fun company-sponsored events (picnics, lunches, etc.)
    ~ Good work-life balance.

    Cons~ Mediocre benefits.
    ~ Sub par pay.
~ Business side thinks they understand technology, but really don't.
~ Annual bonus is tied to company sales goals, which can be effected by outside factors (ie. Google algorithm changes).
~ Annual bonus goal is unrealistic, resulting in no Annual Bonus being paid out.

Advice to Senior ManagementEither get rid of the few clients on which use more than their fair share of system resources or charge them enough to make their contract actually generate positive income to the company.
